cotegirlsmom Posted June 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2004 We are taking our first cruise in July with our 3 teenage daughters. I'm trying to decide between 2 excursions the day we're in St. Thomas. #1 is a Tour with Godfrey. Get picked up from ship at 9am, taken downtown to shop until 12noon, get picked up for tour of St Thomas (2hrs), dropped off at choice of Megans Bay, Coki Point or Sapphire Beach for 2 hours, and then taken back to the ship. Cost: $20/person(Godfrey) plus snorkel guide/gear at Coki $30/person #2 is Captain Nautica's Power Raft Snorkeling Tour. Picks up at 8:30 Am and takes you on power raft out to two snokeling areas near St John. Back to ship around 12:30, clean up and then go shopping on our own. Cost: $64/person We'll be in port 7am to 5pm. Any opinions or advice is very much appreciated!!! First Cruise Explorer of the Seas
jwmimi Posted June 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2004 We took the Godfrey tour, and he is a really great guy! We did a little shopping first, so we got it all in. We had not booked the tour ahead of time but saw him in town. He then took us back to the ship to get our swimsuits, etc. We were there last summer. CrimsonCruiser Posted June 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2004 I just did the Godfrey tour last week and it was wonderful. We had teenage girls and boys along with us and they really enjoyed it as well. As far as the cost of snorkle gear at Coki, it is $10 per person for mask and fins. Plus they give you a milkbone dog biscuit to feed to the fish. This ensures that you will be surrounded by hundreds of tropical fish. The water is very clear. As far as the tour, they take you to several stops with tremendous breathtaking views. The pictures you take from these venues will be the best from your cruise, at least they were for us. I had been to St. Thomas before (We did a St. John's excursion) and I did not get the appreciation for the island that I got on this tour. <applet code="countdown.class" CODEBASE="http://*************/java-sys" width="203" height="25"> <param name="font" value="lcdb0"> <param name="year" value=2004> <param name="month" value=5> <param name="day" value=30> <param name="hour" value=17> </applet> HAL Zandaam 06/2000 RCCL Voyager 07/2002 RCCL Mariner 05/2004

VickiVSN Posted June 11, 2004 #15 Share Posted June 11, 2004 Here is an idea for Godfrey. You get to choose the time you want him to pick you up at the ship for the lenght of time you want to shop. If shopping appeals to you, but not the kids, you could have a 9:00a pickup for you and then the kids could do an 11:00a pickup and meet you in town to do the rest of the tour. If your sons are old enough to get themselves off the ship and look for Godfrey (who will be waiting near by) that might be a way to make everybody happy. jdvoice Posted June 11, 2004 #18 Share Posted June 11, 2004 here is my two cents - unless you just REALLY want to shop -If you only have one day in USVI - and have never been before - GO TO ST JOHN - either excursion or on own - Its been 20 years since I have been there and cant wait to go back - NEXT WEEK -
cruisnfool Posted June 12, 2004 #19 Share Posted June 12, 2004 St Thomas is one of those places that you need to visit several times to enjoy it all. My friends used Godfrey and had a great time. We prefer Saphire beach over Coki or Megens on St Thomas. I think Trunk Bay on St John is prettier than any beach in ST Thomas. Relax and enjoy whatever you choose because you wil want to return. laurieny Posted June 12, 2004 #20 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I would also agree with taking the ferry to St John and spending the day at Trunk Bay-it was one of the most relaxing and beautiful days of our cruise. I know we didn't get to see much of St. Thomas, but even when we go back next March I will have a hard time not going back to this beach. -Laurie
FOXTROT Posted June 13, 2004 #21 Share Posted June 13, 2004 We have been to St. Thomas several times. Been on several sight seeing tours, been to Megans Bay. This time taking ferry to St. John then to Trunk Bay. Maybe a taxi ride around island before returning. Any suggestions on things not to miss? dhcoaster Posted June 13, 2004 #22 Share Posted June 13, 2004 IMHO, take a taxi to Megans Bay on your own. $6.00/PP one way and a $3.00 entrance fee. Total $15.00/PPRT. Get one of those bigger taxi's and the driver will return to pick you up and take you back to the ship. Give yourself at least an hour to a hour and a haft for pickup before the ship sails. BUT, did no worry, there are plenty of taxi's that will be waiting at Megans Bay. If you dock, you will be at Havertown, walk around a little first, then jump in the taxi. If you tender, you will be right in the heart of C.A. jordanaire Posted June 14, 2004 #23 Share Posted June 14, 2004 You HAVE to do the "Screamin' Eagle" jet boat tour! Absolutely the best 45-minutes we ever spent in St.Thomas!! It's located right there at the dock, and costs $45 pp. This high-speed boat will take 25 passengers through some 90-deg turns and 60-0mph braking in a split second. You WILL get wet! But it sure is worth the time and money to give this excursion a try! We wouldn't hesitate doing it again. yarlenna Posted June 14, 2004 #24 Share Posted June 14, 2004 If you are doing a snorkeling thing in the islands, take some of the boxed cereals from the breakfast buffet to attract some fish. I had never thought of dog-biscuits. That sounds GREAT. Perhaps, next time, I'll add that to my pack list. Work like a dog. Live like a pauper. Save all your money. Then Cruise!
