Jan 2011 -- Carribbean Cruise -- Which Itinerary??

Hi There,

 

My wife and I are seriously considering a short 5 day Carribbean cruise in January 2011 to get away from the winter of Boston. We plan on flying in the night before - mostly because it is going to be the winter and the weather could cause delays....

 

My choices right now are both on Celebrity (our favorite cruise line) and are out of Miami. Part of the decision is also because decent frequent flier tickets are available..

 

Roatan, Honduras, Cozumel, Mexico

 

OR

 

Ocho Rios, Jamaica, George Town, Grand Cayman

We really plan to just relax..

 

Any ideas on which is a better itinerary?

Definitely the Roatan itinerary. I rate Cozumel and Grand Cayman about the same. However, Roatan is leaps and bounds better than Ocho Rios. Heck, almost any port is better than Ocho Rios. Are they both on the same ship?

Yes, both are on the Celebrity Century.

The falls are beautiful. The problem is, that's where everyone goes. It is very crowded. You are constantly accosted by vendors and drug dealers.

Yes the falls are beautiful. but every ship now offers that excursion. There are several congo lines going up at the same time. There are times when it is MOBBED!!

I wouldn;t even think of that tour any more.

We have been to all those ports multiple times.

 

Definitely would chose the cruise with Roatan on it.

Another vote for Roatan route. I was there for the first time this past Spring. It's one of my favorites. Ocho, well, not so much.

Both have the same basic itinerary, withgood arrival times / lengths in port

 

Day 0 Miami

Day 1 Sea

Day 2 Roatan or Ocho Rios

Day 3 Cozumel or Georgetown

Day 4 Sea

Day 5 Miami

 

After reading these replies and some of the horror stories on here and tripadvisor... Roatan/Cozumel was the better choice
