TERRIER1 Posted January 31, 2011 #26 Share Posted January 31, 2011 These are the locations of the public elevators. They aren't easy to find but they are there. If you stop at the Tourist Bureau when you arrive and obtain a map you will be able to find the public elevators. They save a lot of up hill walking. This is the site where you can can get some good info. http://monaco.angloinfo.com/information/27/busses.asp Public Elevators There are several elevators and travelators in Monaco making it easier to walk up and down the Principality's steep hills. The moving walkways are located: between the Place des Moulins and the beaches between the Princess Grace Hospital Centre and the Exotic Garden between the harbour and Avenue de la Costa between the Place St. Dévote and the area of Monéghetti between the Terraces of the Casino, the Congress Centre Auditorium and the Boulevard Louis II between the Avenue des Citronniers and the Avenue Grande-Bretagne between the highway and the Larvotto Boulevard
cdn.cruiser Posted February 13, 2011 #27 Share Posted February 13, 2011 We are docking (tendered) at Villefranche and plan to see Nice and Monte Carlo. Should we take the train or a bus from Villefranche? Also after reading all these posts, Eze sounds very nice. We dock at 10 a.m. and leave port at 8 p.m. Do we have time to do all 3 or should we just stick to the 2, Nice and Monte Carlo? My main question though is bus or train? Thanks for any info. Rare Hlitner Posted February 13, 2011 #28 Share Posted February 13, 2011 Whether you have time to "do it all" simply depends on how you want to do it! For some folks, they are happy going to the maximum number of places in the shortest time and for others they rather relax and take some time to enjoy a few places. But, if you are on your own you can simply make your decisions at the time. As to bus or train you will get different opinions. From Villefranche to Nice we would definitely use the bus since you will save money, they run more often then the trains, and it really does not take longer. To Monte Carlo from Villefranche we pesonally like the bus because you get a nicer view of the area, it costs less then the train, and the bus will take you into the heart of Monte Carlo whereas the train station is a bit off the tourist path. But, the train is usually a bit faster. Between Monte Carlo and Nice we generally recommend the train since its a bit faster. But keep in mind that the buses are really cheap and do give you a change to see more than the train.... Hank

KirkNC Posted February 16, 2011 #30 Share Posted February 16, 2011 Is there a need for advanced tickets for the palace tour? I'm not sure if they have a set schedule, or if you can go at any time.. i believe the changing of the guards is right before noon? i'd love to witness that..thanks for any info.;) We bought tickets right after the changing of the guard, not much of a line to speak of. No reservations required. The changing of the guard is at noon but folks start lining up around 11:15-11:30. Kirk

Doing all three might be difficult if you want to spend any time at one of the locations. Regarding your question about transportation, buses work great. Also remember that Villefranche can be enjoyable to stroll around as well
