Princess Secrets they Don't Tell You

I haven't asked for escargot in advance of them serving it but when it comes up I ask if I can have it tomorrow as well.

That's when the waiter goes for the head waiter and we "negotiate" how many days I'd like escargot for a starter (had them for 7 days running on one cruise and I was the one that said enough I want something else).

Only once was I told no, can't be done - this is the only night we are serving escargot. It didn't put me off trying again on the next cruise.

We had the same experience. To please us, they started to bring out too much escargot, we would feel badly and try to eat them all. We always tip the head waiter(s) nicely, when we get treated special

A couple of months ago I posted that I was going to be on the Crown over Christmas. I belong to the Player's Club (I spend many nights in the Casino) and I had been told that if I informed them of the details of my next Princess cruise, I could expect to receive their standard Bon Voyage package in my cabin. Nothing was waiting for me in my cabin upon my arrival on the 23rd. However, on December 24th I did receive a lovely bottle of red wine, compliments of the Casino. This was my first time letting the Player's Club know of my travel plans. I will cetainly let them know when I plan my next Princess cruise. Thanks, Player's Club! icon7.gif

Sorry, but I have sailed on the Emerald 3 times and the Ruby once, they both have miserable mattresses. As do the Sapphire and the Diamond.

Princess has crummy beds; Star, Caribbean, and Emerald.

BTW: the overall cost of cruising is more on Carnival... if you add up the cost of drinks etc when compared to a similar itinerary on Princess...IMHO

You are not taking avantage of the Send function available with your laptop's email browser.

Why write your email message in Word and then copy/paste into or compose your email while online when you can completely do this (including attaching pictures and documents) while working off line in your laptop’s email browser (Outlook Express, Windows Mail, etc.) and select send later (File>Send Later) which will save the message in your Outbox. The Outbox emails can then be sent when you are next online. This is more efficient as the only time needed online is to actually upload and download your emails. Once the uploads and downloads are done you can go off line to read the just received emails and if needed type your response to any which also can be saved in the Outbox.

In fact if you are composing emails off line using the laptop's email browser while not in the WiFi log in area and click on Send, it will default to the Send Later and place the email in your Outbox because of the lack of an internet connection since your computer can't logged on to the ship's WiFi.

What I do is set my laptop's email browser not to send and receive messages at start up (Tools>Options>General Tab, uncheck the send and receive messages at start up box and Check for New Messages every so many minutes box) so I am offline when I start the email browser up.

When I am ready to send and receive emails I log on and select Tools>Send and Receive>Send and Receive All or Receive All or Send All. You can even set your email browser to send and receive from several email accounts by setting up all of the email addresses by selecting Tools>Accounts>Add.

To send it from Outlook Express, I believe you have to change your "POP" settings.

I didn't when I used Outlook Express. Now I use Windows Mail on my laptop so basically my instruction were for that browser but I recall doing something very similar for Outlook Express.

Can anyone tell me which deck on the Coral Princess has the "secret" door?

Tracey

Our cabin was on the BAJA deck and the steward took us forward and led us out the door and said it was a great place to take pictures on Glacier day.

Hello. I finally finished reading all 37 pages, took me 2 days.

ALOT of great tips!!! I copied alot of them into a Word document. I wish I could contribute, but all the ones we know of are already in here.

On our last cruise - July 2010 - we had anytime dinning. We tried all 3 dining rooms and went back to the first one for the rest of the trip. We asked for the same waiter. He was surprised and happy that we requested him every time. He sat us at the same table and brought us a "special" appetizer. He was real nice and friendly.

DH had figured out the colors in the carpets to let you know which side you are on. I didn't know about the ones on the stairs. Actually, I've never seen carpeting on the stairs, only at the top of them.

DH has a coffee card and I usually get the Ultimate Card. He's the coffee drinker. I'm the soda & mocktail drinker. I have also used it to get juice at the bars. My fav is the Cranberry/Pineapple mix. They will mix any juices you want together.

We will be on a cruise on the CB in March. I'm glad it has an IC!!! The last ship we were on that had it was the Crown in 2007. At that time we thought you had to pay for the food there. No on told us different. This time, we will treat ourselves to it. It may be dangerous - between the drink cards we have, the free food and tables to play cards . . . . . ;)

The area above the bridge - we found that when we were in Tracy Arm (july 2010). It was great!! On our way out of Tracy Arm, the Golden was going in - we passed each other. It was soooooooooo cool!!!! People on both ships were whistling, hoot & hollering, waving, etc. Another passenger we met on CC sent me his video. It's cool.

I will definitely try out the tips I have read/saved and see what happens.

Thanks for a great thread!! :)

Really no secret and may have already been mentioned (long thread)…we’ve begun getting cabins near the Grand Suite or other suites as they put their best stewards there. They service the rooms around the suites as well so you get the benefit of a very good steward.

Don't know if this is a secret or not. We were on the Royal Princess April 2010. We had an Aft cabin (won't do that again). The safe is IN the room, not in a closet. Well, with the vibration of the ship the safe door would vibrate. We tried duct tape (yep, we bring it along too) that didn't work. We wedged the TV guide (it's under the tv) in the gap of the top of the safe door. That worked!!

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for next month, just in case. We will be in an aft cabin on the Crown. Do you know if the safes have the same issue there?

Don't know about the Crown - but then again it is a MUCH larger ship than the Royal. The Royal only holds about 600 passengers. That was the first time we saw the safe IN the room, rather than in the closet.

I was told this before we went on our Alaska cruise July 2010. The coupon book (for shopping in ports) you get in the Embarkation building for FREE is better than the one you have to pay $25 for. We left out of Seattle.

We have the $25 one for the Caribbean (and will use it this March) - haven't seen a free coupon book (for the stores in town) yet for the Caribbean. However, when we went to the Carib in 2010, when we bought the book, DH had lost it. So, we didn't get to do any free shopping. :( On our last day, DH & I were sitting in the lobby and the woman who sells the book asked us how our shopping was. We told her that we lost the book on a excursion. She felt bad and gave us another book for free. It was a short cruise. The only ports were St. Thomas & Princess Cays

On the last night of our cruise we asked the hostess for copies of th e menus were available. She proceede to give us actual lunch and dinner menus from every day of our 10 day cruise.

I just take digital photographs of the menus which makes it a lot easier to store and post on the internet.

The warm cookies and milk are a fun treat at 3pm when the waiter with cart his delivers them at poolside. I've heard that the new Cocktail hour for Captain's Circle Elite/Platinum and Suite passengers held every night with a drink special is very nice - I will definitely try this next week on my cruise. Suite passengers now have the option of having a full breakfast at Sabitini's which is very nice.

Happy cruising to all!

Does the cocktail hour and breakfast at Sabatini's apply to mini-suite passengers, or just the large suites?

Cocktail Hours (usually in Skywalkers if the ship has one): Platinums + Elites + Full Suites. Guests allowed with permission.

Breakfast at Tiffany's (I changed the venue): Only Full Suites. No Guests allowed.
