One Night Cruise

I'm taking the Rotterdam on a one nighter from Seattle to Vancouver next week. I'm spending a day in Vancouver and then getting on Princess for a two night trip to San Francisco. It'll be a great 5 day trip and a nice getaway. All of you naysayers need to lighten up and not be so critical of those of us who enjoy both long and short cruises.

We are doing the same kind of thing in three weeks. Zaandam Seattle to Vancouver and then staying over night in Vancouver 2 nights, then 2 nighter to SF. Have fun. I do love living on the West Coast and being able to do these short cruise to tie me over until my longer ones.

The Vancouver to Seattle or vice versa (depends on the season), are cheaper than the 'cruises to nowhere' out of NYC on NCL and Carnival because they are for repositioning purposes. The ones from NYC are for the "party hardy" types, and party, eat, and gamble they do. Some never even make it into their cabin.

As said, they are good to give you some idea of what cruising is like, but also the crowd is certainly not representative of what you would find on a longer cruise.

Just came across a 1-nite $29 cruise from Seattle to Vancouver (9/26) on HAL. Turns out there are a bunch of these cruises, but most are $79.

Not much of an itinerary - leave at 5, get in at 7. Not much to sightsee in the dark. Anyone done one of these? Anyone really LOVE these 1-niters?

We'd never bother. Obviously we don't live anywhere near a port unless you consider Galveston "near" and that's still 250 +/- miles away so that's a consideration. Flying to a port for even a three or four night cruise makes no sense unless it was a "try it you'll like it" cruise.

My first ever cruise will be a 1 night trip from Seattle to Vancouver, BC on the 18th. I plan on taking a longer cruise at some point (Alaska), but as others have mentioned, the pricing for this is better than a night out on the town.

My wife and I are joining 3 other friend couples for a weekend getaway.

HAL: Seattle to Vancouver = $69/person + taxes

Amtrak: Vancouver to Seattle = $50/person

Total cost for the trip = ~$300 (before drinking/shopping/etc)

We booked an 'Oceanview' room, and were upgraded to a 'Verandah Suite'....not that we'll be on long enough to really enjoy the room.

We're really looking forward to the trip, and plan on doing more of these 'repositioning' cruises in the future.

To make a correction, this isn't a repositioning cruise. It's the first day of either a 35 or 65 day cruise that starts in Seattle.

Have a fantastic first cruise! And congrats on the sweet upgrade. :)

A balcony is a good thing, even on a short cruise.

I've done several 1 nighters and love them. However I've also done a couple of 7 night and a 10 night cruises as well.

I just tell people before they do them that they are not a good reflection of a longer cruise, they are what they are, a cheap night out and a LOT of fun. The shops, casino, disco, dining room, piano bar and shows all happen.

We usually book the Pinnacle Grill which makes the evening that much more special. I did two in May this year and I'm doing two in September.

Downside is you still have to line up to get on and off the ship. I bring a good book and a snack and all is good.

Got a sweet upgrade from an oceanview to a balcony for 18th on the Rotterdam, awaiting a cabin assignment for the 26th on the Oosterdam, from an SZ to a ??? (in may it was an SA suite, love the Neptune Lounge!)

There's more people listed on this thread for the one night cruise on the 18th than on the roll call thread. We're looking forward to it and hope all of you have a great time as well!!

That's so funny. I started a thread for the 1-night Zaandam - Oct 1, and did not think I would get much response, but surprisingly we have a good roll call going.
