Eurodam - Lido Pool Cabanas

Some of us who don't like the E-dam's Lido cabanas have not used them, but dislike them for other reasons.

Those cabanas are directly on the main path from the Lido dining area to the forward elevator banks. Consequently, the path tends to be busy, crowded in, and very difficult to maneuver if there is a wheelchair, or walker trying to get through. Have two mobility aids trying to go in different directions, and you have a bad jam-up.

Beyond that, the cabanas block a nice view of the sea for some people who might like to look out.

Take a good look at the loungers. The ones I remember are double-wide. All I could think of was "Nighttime Teen Make-out Center". Just pull the curtains and enjoy! :o

I haven't been on my Eurodam cruise yet, so the information I am going to give you is based on my neighbor, who went last winter.

We booked the Lido cabana based on her info.

Apparently, the people who don't like them are the people who either want to be in the retreat area away from hubbub (which after due deliberation decided was not what we wanted) and the people who aren't in any cabana and feel the Lido cabanas take up precious room in the pool area. (This was my neighbor, who wished she and her husband had booked one, cos she said she would rather be the person taking up the space :D... there were none available by the time she had that epiphany)

I can understand both reasons.

Our decision was based on pros and cons and her observations..... we shall see!

They looked rather nice I guess. That being said I barely remember them being used and I (for one) would feel a bit elitist looking out on the 'unwashed masses' in the Lido area while reclining in my roman lounger with my Evian mister, my basket of fruit, extra puffy robe, and countless other baubles. I suppose you could close the curtains but then who knows what people might think you are up to ;)

The Retreat outside at least is out of the way so you don't feel like you are on display and there is a common area to mingle with others.

We don't like them because there is little space in the passageway to go from the front of the ship to the back and vice versa. They come out pretty far -- there is a railing to stop people from moving the pool loungers out in the passage way. We got caught in a traffic jam. There was a scotter behind us and one in front of us. None of us could go in either direction until one of the scotters backed up.

I know many of you have said that you disliked the Lido Pool Cabanas. I'd love to hear more about why, especially from those of you that have used them. Are they worth booking? Can you share one with another couple/family?

Thanks!

Was not worth booking for us , 90% been empty all the time.there is no air inside ,its covered from 2 sides .I could not really found reason why I need one:confused:

This is what was mentioned earlier that the Lido Mid Ship Pool Cabanas look like now with the additional furniture. Also, one point mentioned that needs to be stressed is that there is no air circulation, so it can get hot as heck in there, especially if you close the curtains.

We've got one booked for our cruise in just a little over a month. I went back and forth over the Retreat or the Lido, but I love to People watch and I was afraid the retreat would be too quiet - so we went with the Lido.

I'll be sure to report back and let you know how it was, and post all the pictures.

You just hit one of my reasons, too! I LOVE people watching and need to be "in the thick of things"... i get enough peace and quiet at home :D

too bad we won't be on the same cruise... nothing is more fun than people watching with a kindred spirit!

i look forward to your opinions after your cruise...

On the Nieuw Amsterdam the Lido cabanas have been moved to the starboard side, which should help the traffic-jam problem a little. What I object to is space taken up. On the Vistas it there are about twice as many tables and chairs along the windows, making it far easier to find a table to eat lunch or just sit a while.

Thanks! I like to people watch as well and will also be traveling with my kids who will be in and out of the pool. Retreat would be to far away.

Yes - that was my issue as well. First it was the wrap around decks that disappeared, then the chairs for the lanai staterooms, then the cabana's in the Lido, then Tamarind reserved for suite brunch on Sundays, what next?

Of course - I was then told I was sounding rather like a socialist stuck on a capitalist machine so I shut up

I just don't get the cabanas myself. I would rather have my balcony but I am a bit silly. Tamarind for suite lunches - really? interesting. It was always the Pinnacle before. No worries. Everyone will have a great time whatever option they choose.:):)

How do you book the cabanas?

I actually agreed with you, and I had to do some back and forth logic to come to a decision...

Why book a Lido cabana when we have a balcony?

Or, do we really need a balcony if we have a cabana?

Then I realized we had 2 different things going on...

the balcony is so wonderful first thing in the morning for our al fresco private breakfast, and later in the evening for having a quiet drink before dinner, or stargazing at night while listening to the water....

but we can't jump into the pool (or people watch) from there... :D

The cabanas are only open from 9-5... so sacrificing our beloved balcony for the early morning and evening hours was not going to happen.... I can't even imagine not being able to have our private outdoor space at night!

So, all things considered, we decided not having to arm wrestle someone for a deck chair in front of the pool, or worrying that if we leave for an activity it is going to be gone, (not to mention the services of a waiter to bring us lunch from the Lido without having to stand in line) the balcony AND the lido cabana were the ticket for us.....

Feel sorry for my husband.... I logic every decision this way... :D

There are many cabins on the ship without balconies, and on the Eurodam there are the 10 VT cabins near the Retreat which have only the Juliet balconies. I don't get the cabanas because we rarely stay in any one place on the ship more the 90 minutes max.

They are booked by calling ships services.
But only if you want to book them for the entire cruise.

so I am now about to learn something - the cabanas - you get additional service? I thought the price was just for the spot. They bring you lunch as you request it? Any other amenities. ? that can make a difference too.:D

Yep... we were informed that the Lido cabanas have exactly the same amenities as the Retreat cabanas.... waitstaff, frozen grapes, mister, ipod, etc...

What you just asked was what put me over the top .... having someone bring me a regular lunch from the Terrace Grill or the Lido buffet.... not being too fond of standing in line.. :D

The only difference is the out of the way exclusivity of the Retreat area....If they had a pool up there I would have had a more difficult decision...

read up in the thread... i think all the info is on there....

I haven't seen the cabanas yet, but I couldn't believe it the first time I looked at the Eurodam. We love eating out by the Lido pool and its always crowded on any ship espcially sea days. I can't imagine the congestion when everyone is there. That was my opinion when I saw them. Last year, we chose the Westerdam over the Eurodam for that reason. But, we revisited our decision and decided to try the Eurodam. This will be 10/23. It does appear they would be awfully hot with no circulation, but I noticed HAL will give you a hand held fan. I had already decided I wasn't going to like them but I am going to wait to pass judgement until I actually look at them. I hope its an enhancement
