Bermuda excursions

It is easy to do things on your own in Bermuda. Check out the Bermuda Ports of Call boards for lots of tips. There are a lot of regular posters there who can answer specific questions you may have.

We always go to Horseshoe Bay beach at least one of the days.

Doing your own thing is best...take the bus and the ferry. They don't allow you rent a car there. The bus drivers are very nice...just tell them where you want to get off and they'll let you know when you're there. Everyone was super nice...if someone saw us reading a map and trying to figure out where we were, they'd stop and ask if they could help find something. Most polite place we've been.

You should go to the Royal Naval Dockyards...don't miss the beaches. We went to Jacobson's Bay, but there are many others. We visited the zoo, the museum, the dockyards, the caverns -- can't remember everything. We walked all over St. George's and took the bus to went up to the lighthouse--thought I'd die climbing it, but the view from the top is so worth it...there is a lot to do there and it's a beautiful place.

If you want to know what to go and see,go to your library and get thr Frommers or Fordor books in the travel section at the library. That is what we do.Then we return the books and just befor we sail we go and take the book out again and take it with us.

Happy Sailing

I also vote for on your own. If you want to see the south shore and go to horseshoe bay beach (most popular and beautiful!), take the pink #7 bus- before you board, ask the bus director-man any questions you might have about stops where to get off, where to get the bus to get back and he will answer them all. The bus drivers are very helpful as well. when we docked in Kings wharf this past June/July we took the bus and first got off at Jobsons Cove. It is gorgeous, quiet (there were only 4 or 5 others there), stairs to walk down and back up, but no amenities like horseshoe. After Horseshoe is warwick long bay which we tried to walk to on the beach from Horseshoe, to no avail. Some folks say you can but we didnt find a path, neither did any others we saw walking back from their try! I also have a passion for always stopping into the Bermuda Perfumery in St George. Google it!! Dont forget Tobacco bay beach if you are nearby st george- Right at Kings wharf is the glass factory where you can watch glass blowing and the rum cake factory...also pottery...

ENJOY!

This is what I meant instead of Jacobson's Bay! LOL...it's been so long since we were there, but Jobson's Cove is beautiful and very quiet...not many people go there.

We were in Bermuda last week for a day a half, approximately. Our first day was a national holiday for Bermuda, so island transportation wasn't operating on a regular schedule. However, since we researched our cruise and destination on CC beforehand, we learned that we could take a taxi tour of the island for a reasonable cost.

Taxi drivers in Bermuda are also authorized to give tours and they all charge the same rate, which is around $40 a person for about 3 hours. (We had 8 in our group and had to take 2 taxis, but it worked out great.) We saw the entire island - including Horseshoe and Tobacco Bay beaches, Hamilton and St. George - and learned about its history and saw the sights, stopped at beaches, lighthouses, ancient churches, forts, etc.

You can agree on the length and the price before your tour and they will take you wherever you want and tailor your tour to your needs. All in all, our tour lasted 5 hours.

In the evening, we disembarked again and visited King's Wharf, listened to a steel drum concert onshore (hosted by the locals) and since it was holiday, the Bermuda Regimental Band and Fife and Drum Corps held a ceremony and parade. It was FANTASTIC!

On our second day, (our short day) we had an excursion planned with the ship - Hartley's Helmet Dive, which lasted about 4 hours. It was perfect.

I think if we had to do it all over again, we would do the same thing. We got to see and do most everything - both on land and sea. :)
