WAHMto5 Posted September 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2010 They are Goood! and they only cost $9.95 for a cake that fed 10 people I thought the same way. We had one delivered to the MDR the first night on the ship for our son's birthday and thought it was very good for the price;)
pe4all Posted September 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2010 We have had both the chocolate and vanilla ones. Tasted good to us - better than most of the desserts they serve. (except bitter n blanc - love that one!)
ChefSusan Posted September 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Nothing wrong with a chocolate chocolate cake with rich chocolate ganache frosting!!! I happen to like the cake :-)
jbanana1 Posted September 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2010 YES! I love choc mousse cake and theirs is one of the best I've ever had. Worth the money. I'm a big "sweet" person but didnt care for most of the desserts in MDR including the warm choc melting cake. I preferred the choc mousse cake I ordered from Formalities over anything else. Plan to get another one on our next cruise.
boaterette Posted September 24, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I have had the chocolate birthday cake and thought it was really good. The price is cheaper than the bakery at my local grocery store.
Katie John Posted September 24, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 24, 2010 If ordering a cake, do they bring it out with candles on it and sing Happy Birthday. It is my dads birthday on the first night of the cruise and thought about ordering a cake but with all the desserts on board I don't know that it would be worth it

Not good either way!

allnamestaken Posted September 24, 2010 #13 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I had the chocolate mousse cake for my birthday and it was yum, a tablemate had vanilla for hers and it wasn't a hit.
Cyndi03 Posted September 24, 2010 #14 Share Posted September 24, 2010 My kids had one sent to us for our anniversary cruise in May on the Dream. It was fantastic. My husband doesn't usually do sweets, especially cake, but he finished it in the middle of the night!

Problem with us was that we could not eat the entire cake so the waiter packed it up and we took it back to the cabin.

jleiwig Posted September 24, 2010 #18 Share Posted September 24, 2010 How is the sugar free variety? I've been debating getting a sugar free one for my MIL for our cruise next month.
tkilrainrn Posted September 24, 2010 #19 Share Posted September 24, 2010 The cakes are awesome! I would not hesitate ordering one again. We ordered a small and it took us days to finish it.
thegashlycrumb Posted September 24, 2010 #20 Share Posted September 24, 2010 We arranged for a birthday cake for my cousin on the Valor two years ago. The cake was good, but we were surprised when the waiter didn't give each person the option of ordering a dessert being served in the MDR in addition or instead (I really wanted that baked alaska). I'm sure they'll still bring you the MDR dessert if you ask, though, but we didn't catch on until it was too late.

Perhaps it just depends on the waiter.
scorp111 Posted September 24, 2010 #22 Share Posted September 24, 2010 We have had the cake the past two years, and it is very good. We have always ordered desserts and taken the cake back to the Cabin, although we have yet to finish one with so much food around!

EWWWW - I do not care for sugar free cakes - if it is medically necessary then okay but not great in my opinion.
