Rare aml3679 Posted October 1, 2010 #51 Share Posted October 1, 2010 At home, I take things directly out of the dryer so I rarely have to iron. On vacation, I usually iron because I hate wrinkles. This caused me a lot of stress before hand. I did bring Downey Wrinkler Releaser and it does work on some things. We ended up sending our clothes out. The laundry rates are not unreasonable. The slips do designate - launder, dry clean or iron. Everything we sent out to be laundered, came back pressed and on hangers for just the price of items being laundered. There is a price list on their web site. I assume they don't want you to have them because of a fire hazard. We sent out laundry 4 x and it costs around $200 for everything. I don't think that is outrageous - we came home with all clean clothing.
Giorgi-one Posted October 1, 2010 #52 Share Posted October 1, 2010 FIRE HAZARD, NOTHING!!! The cruise lines are simply sick and tired of replacing burnt carpets, furniture, bedding and counter tops. With people expressing such a lack of respect for cruise line property, they have no choice than to counter with a "No Irons Allowed" policy. Besides, the Laundry service department needs the revenue! You don't think burnt carptets, furniture, bedding and couner tops represent a fire hazard. It just means the moron got lucky. sandancer Posted October 1, 2010 #53 Share Posted October 1, 2010 Well said Georgi-One. Being married to a firefighter certainly focus's the mind on the hazards. The man can't check into a hotel room until he knows where the nearest emergency exit is so ANYTHING likely to cause a fire on a ship gets him going. He is so totally opposed to smoking in staterooms that I worry he will get into a fight one day.
kitty9 Posted October 1, 2010 #54 Share Posted October 1, 2010 Do you think that everyone keeps to the rules!!!;) I dont think so. You have absolutly no idea what the person in the next cabin etc has brought with them and I can think of far worse than a new travel iron.Maybe if cruise lines were not so greedy an had the odd laundry room to press your creased clothes then we would not be having this slangin match After all If you are paying over £6,000 for two people wouldnt you expect to have things like that included. Oh for heaven's sake. You're on vacation, so what's a few wrinkles? I daresay if you're over a certain age, we will be seeing a few wrinkles and creases that cannot be ironed out, but we won't care. BTW, Celebrity scans all your bags, and they WILL open your bag and remove the iron and not return it to you. They did this to an acquaintance of mine, three weeks ago when they had both a travel iron and a hand held steamer in their bag. It's been documented that they are removing prohibited items such as extension cords, irons and the like from passenger bags.

TheresaK Posted October 11, 2010 #56 Share Posted October 11, 2010 I have brought a small travel iron on every cruise I have been on without even realizing I shouldn't. We always let the iron cool somewhere safe....have never been told we couldn't have one and never tried to hide it.

Rare cruisestitch Posted October 11, 2010 #58 Share Posted October 11, 2010 It's in the "what to pack" area of the FAQ, among other places. Not everybody reads the instructions, but irons have always been listed on the "do not bring" list. So everyone has been told, whether or not they know it. No matter how careful you are ships move, so an iron can fall when you don't expect that to happen with dire consequences for everyone who is on that cruise. Mr. Luckytoo Posted October 11, 2010 #60 Share Posted October 11, 2010 I don't get it...people say they won't wear a formal dress or tux because of the airline limitations on bags - so if you leave your iron home then you'll have room in your bag for the tux right! ;)
