NCL Smoking?

Helping a friend of mine who is deciding to cruise for the first time with her 3 year old. She is considering NCL, which we've never cruised on before (although would like to try). She just sent me an e-mail saying that NCL allows smoking in all their rooms... hard to believe they would be so recommended for families if that was true.

Can anyone comment? Tried to do a quick search of the boards, but didn't come up with anything. (They are going out of Nj/NY if that matters).

The only US based cruise line that does NOT allow smoking in cabins is Celebrity. Carnival Dream and Splendor have Spa class cabins which are non-smoking. EM

Royal Caribbean does NOT allow smoking in cabins - however, they do allow smoking on balconies which Celebrity does not.

We are not smokers...we've cruised a few times on various NCL ships and have never encountered smoke smells in the cabin, from a previous smoker. All of the cruise lines allow smoking on the balconies, and we've seen where people complained that their neighbor's smoke drifted over.

Otherwise, the only area we really tried to avoid on our NCL cruises was the casino, and the hallway directly in front of it, leading to the casino..which always appeared "blue" with smoke.

Unfortunately, we had a negative experience with smoking neighbors and were hardly able to use our balcony on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Now we sail exclusively on Celebrity and the smoking policy is a big part of that choice. I like to have the balcony door open and smell sea air... not smoke. Love that the Celebrity casinos are non-smoking too! Makes it fun to play the occasional game.
