First CCL cruise. What room should I pick?

My wife and I are going to do a short 3 day on the Sensation out of Port Canaveral on Jan 6th or the 13th just for a cheap getaway.

We've only done DCL in the past (man, CCL is way cheaper!). We only want an oceanview room. It's going for like $250pp. When I book, should I ask for a particular room number? Thanks for any help.

Are Carnival ships more noisy than other lines?

?? Not that Im aware of. You for sure dont want to be below the main pool. the next worse are the lounges playing music at night. I think the advise Traveler gave is sound for almost any cruiseline.

White spaces next to your cabin can be noisy linen closets that the steward is in before dawn. It is best to be above and below and even next to other cabins to me too.

I have only cruised CCL and we always get cheap rooms. I have done a lot of reading on room selection though. I think he means get a room where there are rooms above and belowto cut down on noise. Not that its noiser but if you are on top or bottom of the disco, lido, casino what have you, you are more apt to hear what is going on around the ship. Kinda like having a room right next to the elevators EVERYONE has to walk by your room. I think the same goes for anywhere We stayed in a AI in mexico and we where near the Disco we heard the nosie all night long. It was not a big deal but food for thought next time we book.

Hope this helps

midship is usually 'calmer' in regards to pitch and roll of the ocean..somewhere around deck 5 or 6 puts you in about the middle...

I noticed that if you were too low in the ship, you could really make note of the ships speed..folks prone to motion sickness might find that an issue..but it is fun to watch the flying fish jump out of the water! Easier to take the stairs if you are only a flight or two from the dining room or lounges, sometimes elevator rides can take a while...

I can't really answer that as I have only cruised on Carnival. I have only had one cabin where noise was a problem. An aft cabin on the Triumph. My fault, I should have been more careful in my cabin selection.

Unless you really have to have a window I recommend inside rooms since they are the same sq. ft. as OV. I like midship on the Upper deck. I am very prone to motion sickness so I need midship. If motion sickness isn"t an issue for you many people like to get a porthole room that way you have a window but the cost is less.

If you want a "cheap getaway" an inside cabin mid ship may suffice. If you want to try the ambience of having a balcony, try mid ship or aft on an upper level deck. If you are prone to motion, mid ship lower level may be best.

Depends on what you want, look at the deck plans, and then when you're aboard, scout around with the idea that on your next cruise, you'll pick this other cabin location you just saw.

Well depends on what you like, I like to be in the front of the middle section not too far from the elevator. I really don't like Alt (back section). Many people love the back, they like to get a Vista Suite and watch the waves in the back. For me this sucks becasue my kids activities are in the middle or front. I also like to be on the port side not the water side (on carnival thats the odd side). Many prefer the even side. Depends on what you like.

I thought oceanview was a porthole room. I better call to book. I'm confusing myself.:D

I've had both porthole and ocean view rooms and they are definitely different. You can see out the portholes but I don't think they are nearly as nice as havng a large window in an ocean view room.

On the Fantasy class,(which the Sensation is part of), the "prime" location is mid ship, Upper deck (that's also where the grand suites are located for a reason), so for the best oceanview cabins, look near that area. It's mid ship (less rocking), and no public areas above or below (unlike the Empress deck).

Keep mind though that on this class of ship, all ocean view cabins with a panoramic window are identical, so the only reason to pay more is because you prefer a specific location. Personally we pick a cabin on the riviera dreck because it's cheaper
