windycity11 Posted October 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2010 I am trying to decide which ship to sail on this December. We have been on a Voyager Class ship back in 2005 and really liked it. We are thinking of trying the Oasis this time. But have a fear of a few things: 1. Was reading that you need to make reservations for shows on Oasis ( do you have to on Navigator?) 2. Concerned about the sheer size of the ship---can you find pool chairs, are there lines for everything, how is disembarking? 3. Cost: family of 5 (2 rooms Balconies) $6802 on Oasis, $4483 on Voyager Advice would be appreciated--here are some insights to what we like and who we are: --1 boy 21 years old (likes sports, music) --1 boy 18 years old (likes sports) --1 girl 13 years old (too young for things the boys do, yet too old to do kid activities--she is our challenge since she has no one to "hang" with and she won't do something alone --40 something year old parents (likes sunbathing, dinners, shows, enjoying the sunsets and ocean) -- 75 year old mom/grandma (might join us) who likes casino's THANKS!! p.s. Went on Princess last Christmas (bahama's) and was very disappointed--dinners were sparse, paid dining was horrible, pictures were expensive at $25 a piece and only 8x10's, bad layout to ship, had and "older" feel to it (the people, not the ship)
yogimax Posted October 6, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2010 3. Cost: family of 5 (2 rooms Balconies) $6802 on Oasis, $4483 on Voyager $2319 could easily pay for another cruise!
algorithmannie Posted October 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2010 I've been on Navigator and Liberty of the Seas, but not Oasis. It's been more than a few years since I was on Navigator, but I would choose Navigator over Oasis. It sounds like there are some REALLY cool things about Oasis, but I think it would just be too big for me. I enjoyed Liberty, but it felt pretty crowded and crazy. I like that Royal Caribbean ships are more active feeling, but I prefer a more relaxed active! Liberty felt kind of crazy and busy! Navigator is such a lovely ship! It's getting older, so I don't know if that is starting to show... but especially because of the cost savings I would go with Navigator!
The Grumpus Posted October 6, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2010 If money is not the deciding factor, then go with Oasis. There is SO much more to do on that ship. So much so that passengers are well spread-out throughout the cruise so the ship hardly ever feels or is crowded. Pool chairs are easy to find at all the pools; embarking & disembarking are smoother than any ship I've ever been on. Both ships are fun but there's nothing like Oasis.:)
cb at sea Posted October 6, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2010 I LOVE the Voyager/Freedom class ships...lots to do, plenty of space, great service... Oasis looks pretty cool, but is soooooo big! Rci designs the ships so they don't feel crowded...no matter HOW big they are...that's one thing they do really well. If you're cruising for the ship, go for the one that "floats your boat"...if you're cruising for either the ports, or a simple vacation, go with Nav....you can't lose either way! windycity11 Posted October 7, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted October 7, 2010 Thanks for all of your help--I think I am going with the Navigator--hopefully some decent rooms are left
mmacdcc Posted October 7, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 7, 2010 On the Navigator, it might not be much more (and may be less) than 2 balconies. We had it last time - it was awesome. Plenty of room (there were 5 of us), everybody had enough privacy, a table, and all the suite privileges. And THREE TVs, and a DVD player. You'll have to either call RCI or if you use a TA, check them to check on the price. But it's worth asking about.
Hobiecat01 Posted October 7, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 7, 2010 We have been on both the Navigator and the Oasis. The Oasis will blow your socks off!!! She is fabulous. Sure $2 grand is a big differential - even bigger in these days and times. But Oasis is the way to go with kids - hands down. The pools alone will take care of them. Don't worry about reservations...we saw everything we wanted and had not issues with reservations. We only got shut out of one Comedy Club show and we just went back the next night (the comedy shows are the same all week). As far as crowds - not a worry. Sure it gets crowded in the Windjammer - same on the Navigator, but the Oasis has touch screen displays at each elevator so you can see how crowded a eatery is and change your plans accordingly. There are tons of new places to eat. For adults, the Solarium is THE place to go. The ship layout has most of the adult areas forward and the kids stuff aft. This works out very well for all. Adults and kids are not on top of each other. The best thing about the Oasis is embarkation and debarkation. We got to the pier at 11:15 and were in the Windjammer at 11:45. 30 minutes flat! No problems at all. Debarkation - we walked off the ship and were at the airport within 15 minutes via a cab. We could have made a 8:30 AM flight back to Atlanta (actually our friends did - they work for Delta and were flying standyby) but we waited until our scheduled flight at 11:00 AM. RCL has getting on and off of this ship down to a science!! -------------------------- Sea ya! loman Posted October 7, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 7, 2010 Check out youtube. You can see actual videos of the Oasis. We were on it last week and it is quite a vessel. The only crowds we saw were at the buffet in the morning after 9 . Got on and got off very easily . Our first cruise was on the Voyager, thats what got us hooked on RCCL. dfishner Posted October 7, 2010 #10 Share Posted October 7, 2010 We will be on Oasis in a month but we have been on NOS more then any other RCL ship we are going again in December.. Love the layout, the ship is really well layout and there is loads to do. I think after Oasis the NOS will seem small to us LOL but it is a great ship and if money is a factor to you you will not be sorry with NOS. Just got off Oasis and while it's big, there is never crowds of people anywhere. No problem getting pool chairs. Make show reservations ahead of time, you just walk right in to shows. cooncat Posted October 8, 2010 #13 Share Posted October 8, 2010 I have been on both. The Oasis didn't feel crowded at all. It wasn't a big deal to reserve the shows ahead of time. Those gave you a guaranteed entrance without waiting on lines for free seats. There was so much to do and see on the Oasis. Getting on and off the ship at ports was a breeze. They multiple doors open. I never had to wait on lines at ports. So, if the extra $2000 plus is not an issue, I would recommend you to take the Oasis. You will not regret it.
