All paid then NCL changed our cabin

Recommended Posts

We booked our cruise well back in Feb, 2010.

with Jade, a 9 days cruise to Canary Islands & Morocco

which will be set sail on Dec 3, 2010. Why so early since

we wanted to have a cabin in the middle of the ship.

We made our final payment on 17th September.

Today which is the 7th Oct. By chance I take a

look at our bookings. Then I found out our

cabin 10076 was changed to 10058.

Phoned the agent as to find out what happened.

She phoned NCL but was told the date after the

final payment someone changed our cabin #. But,

I did not do that, my husband did not do that and

the agent did not do that.

What has happened? NCL said that cabin already

assigned and cannot get it back and insisted that

we changed it ourselves.

Does this happen to anyone before as we are for

sure not happy since we really wanted that middle

of ship cabin.

Welcome to any reply.

Once you book with a TA your reservation is their responsibility.

Show the TA the agreed upon contract that you signed and insist that they abide by it. It is the TAs responsibility to give you what you paid for or arrange sufficient compensation.

Thanks for your reply.

My agent told me that she could not do a thing.

But like you said, I feel the same it is up to the agent

to have this sorted out but she kept saying she cannot,

then what can I do.

The principal is wrong for NCL to change the cabin

without consulting our agent or me.

I would like to know, can we

really change our cabin as we like?

Thanks,

Bayamo

Did you ever update your booking after making your initial reservation? For example, to take advantage of a lower price or new offer for OBC?

If it was a situation that caused the NCL rep to have to cancel your reservation and rebook in order to get the new price, even if it ends up back under your original reservation number, you need to make sure they rebook you in the original cabin. Every time they update your booking, you should get a new invoice and confirm that everything is the way you expect it.

This happened to me. I booked a specific cabin, then a couple weeks later NCL had a new promotion that allowed me to keep my price and get an OBC. So I called NCL. The rep had to cancel my reservation and rebook me. Even though I specifically asked that they keep the same stateroom, when I got my confirmation a couple hours later, the cabin had been changed. Fortunately no one else had grabbed it yet, so I was able to call back and get them to switch it back and send me another confirmation.

Something very similar happened to us, but I caught it the night before the deadline for final payment. We booked almost a year in advance and were given an "early bird booking bonus" of an upgrade from a Cat BE to a Cat BB. I very carefully chose the cabin we wanted (Port, midship, not near the elevators or any public areas like the casino) and my TA booked it for us. I checked my account about weekly waiting for shore excursions to pop up so I could book them and everything looked fine. Fast forward to the day before the deadline. I hadn't checked my account for a couple days. Really truly - it was only a couple of days. Then I checked and what the heck? My room number was different and the location was nowhere near what I had so carefully picked months ago. I sicced my TA on them fast! She was told that what we had booked as an "early bird" was really a GTY room! Excuse me? Nobody told us that an early bird bonus was GTY. Nobody told us they could arbitrarily change our room on us. NCL told her that they couldn't change us back to the room we had originally wanted because somebody else was booked in it. Fortunately (for them because I was upset!! :D) there was a room available 4 doors down the hallway from where I wanted to be. AND the price had dropped significantly, despite the fact that we chose to upgrade to the BB category we had originally thought we had been booked on. So we are still almost where I wanted to be, and we got a $1000 refund for the price difference. The Upgrade Fairy offered us a GTY mini-suite for a small additional charge but we decided to stick with the BB because we were choosy about our location. I'm still not impressed that they duped us into believing that our bonus upgrade was actually a GTY and that they could arbitrarily change us around without any notification whatsoever to myself or my TA. The onus is definitely on the cruiser to keep an eye on things. If I hadn't checked when I did... could you imagine us showing up at the pier and discovering we were on the other side of the ship almost at the front, across from the elevators.

Hello Jame and Donna,

Thank both of you to share your experience with me. I feel so

sorry that you have to experience such a ordeal.

We picked 10076 10 months in advance because we like the

location. From the date of booking to final payment date, we have not changed nothing at all or contacted NCL ourselves therefore that's why, when I checked earlier today our cabin # was 10058 instead of 10076.

What a big disappointment and I am a bit worried from now

on with my bookings!

Thanks once again for your input.

I agree with you, something sounds not right. HAve you checked the NCL website for your date to see if there is another cabin that you could request? I'd also be pestering the agent to call NCL on my behalf to see what else could be done for you. Maybe you could call NCL directly to see if a supervisor could help you. Good luck and sorry this happend to you.

OKAY..

Here is MY story....

NCL changed our cabin also.... we made the reservations back in January 2010.. Had the cruise fully paid,, then they changed our cabin... we had booked an inside cabin, towards the front.. we were moved down 4 floors, and more mid than forward as I had requested, and agreed upon...

as I was very upset... I found that after thinking about it, thinking I had a downgrade, it seems to be ending up as an UPGRADE for us.... we got a handicapped cabin.. much larger! so im not gonna say a word..

we leave on our cruise this saturday, 9th. Im hoping it stays the same and doesnt change again, Im quite happy with the change.. believe me, I was totally balistic with what NCL did... I was all over these boards talking to others.. they opened my eyes to it being an upgrade... I hope your change was an upgrade like ours is. at least Im looking at it as an upgrade.

The BEST to you!!

Bayako,

I checked out the cabins on your ship... Im not a complainer. thats just me.. its only a few cabins down from the one you wanted.. No, they shouldnt have done what they did.. to me neither.. but they did.. who knows what happened...it may change again, who knows.. but.. ya gotta look at it this way, its your cruise, and youwill enjoy it...its just a cabin, and a fine cabin it is.. dont let it worry you, you may like it MUCH better than the other one!! those doing the bookings know what they are doing, and if you booked first, Id bet they changed you to a more prefered area than NOT. you are just as close to the stairs/elevators just a few doors up.... Id let it go myself..

dont get me wrong,, I personally was VERY UPSET too with my change.. but Im hoping its for the BETTER. and, they know what they are doing.

I would not settle for that. If you have your orginal copy of your reservation showing the stateroom you state they should offer you something. You are more forward on the ship if anything go more aft in the BA category if open. I would call NCL direct.

Good Luck and enjoy your cruise!

I've encountered this on Princess, where a PAX will choose their cabin very carefully to suit their needs and then Princess will automatically "upgrade" them to a higher class cabin but in a less desirable location. The cruise line sees this as a real bennie, but for a PAX who is picky about location it can be a real mess.

I always specify "NO UPGRADES" on my booking and then call back a few weeks later to make sure that note is still there.

I have an upcoming cruise on NCL, and so far the note regarding no upgrades is still there - or at least the agents tell me it is.

Simply put, this is not fair to the consumer whatsoever. If NCL has reason to change your cabin, what's wrong with contacting the passenger directly and discussing the possibility of a cabin change? Personally, I would be furious, as I always plan my vacations in advance and have specific reasons for my choices in cabins. Thank you for the information as I will keep a close eye on my future bookings. As far as the travel agent is concerned, they should be able to be of some assistance in this matter. After all, what are you utilitzing their services for? Most of the larger travel agencies have blocks of cabins on the ships saved for their agency only. I was told that is why sometimes the travel agent will quote a lower price than NCL will directly. In any event, I would be creating some kind of chaos regarding this cabin change. At the very least, you should be entitled to a significant on-board credit.

Thank you ALL so much to share your experience with me.

Yes, I have both agent as well as NCL documents

showing our cabin number BA - Balcony 10076.

What NCL gave us, be a good cabin for some but since we

Picked that particular one, paid in full and think it will be that. But then,

When someone at NCL decided to switch our cabin for their own reason then

My faith was all crashed.

It is the PRINCIAL that’s all wrong. If they would have asked me,

Do you know what, yes, I like the cabin number and I do not like cabin number

With 5 but since NCL asked and with a good enough reason, I will think about

It and eventually, I might just let it go. But I will stand my ground.

I feel bad even now, yesterday at the end of my conversation with the cruise agent, when she said

There is nothing which she could do and asked me to talk with NCL myself.

I lost it all; the agent is the one represent me and I paid for her service, therefore

Why asked me to do it her myself.

Anyway, I am now have settled down a bit but so far I have

Not read my email etc.

Fingers crossed, between my agent and NCL, knowing

we are their loyal customer and have sailed with them so many times that they

will come to senses and do something right.

Thanks for your support and I am so sorry to hear all your passed experiences.

I would not be happy if my cabin was changed without any notice. I would ride my TA until they did their job and restored my original booking. In this case I might not.

Looking at the deckplans there is a bright side and perhaps the reason for the change. 10078 is an adjoining cabin with a door to 10080 and may have been the reason for the change with passengers needing that arrangement. 10058 is not adjoining.

The only downside is 10058 is a little further from the Elevators.

Enjoy your cruise. As always the best part of NCL is onboard and the primary reason we cruise with them.

A similiar incident happened to me on X. I had booked a cabin (same cabin as we just were in) and sent in my deposit to the ta (I used a person, not an internet ta for many reasons including service) and had a written confirmation. Somehow I subsequently found out after 30 days that my deposit was recorded after the 30 day requirement. X blamed the ta and the ta blamed x. When I insisted upon the specific cabin or an upgrade to a suite from a delux balcony I booked, the ta said they couldn't do anything (they did not want to pay the difference). I ultimately got X to upgrade me to the suite and had a ball. PS I no longer use that agency who I previously booked 6 or 7 prior cruises.

If it had been a move to different deck or the very front of the ship, I could see being a little peeved. But a room change to 9 cabins down? Literally just 9 doors down?

Seems like a pretty small change in the grand scheme of things.

I'm off on the Pearl today! Have a great weekend CC!:o

My situation that I had, it wasn't even an upgrade. Our original booking was for 9608 on the Star. I still ended up with the BB category we had from our "early bird bonus" so they kept that part of the deal. But like Bayako, we had paid our cruise in full (my TA had us pay a few days early in case of problems with our credit card or something) and then they moved us to starboard Cabin 9052 (that's what I meant when I said "nowhere near"). We were still on the same deck. But we were right across from the elevators which I had specifically chosen not to be near and we were much nearer to the bow on the other side of the ship. It was totally unacceptable to us because we had chosen our cabin very carefully. The only explanation we got was that our early booking bonus was considered at GTY category, which we had no idea that's what they considered it, so they could move us around at will.

NCL did offer us an upgrade to a mini-suite when my TA called them about it for about $300 pp more, which right now is going for $1300 pp more than our room is. We turned it down because the location was that important to us. Over all we would have made the best of it if my TA hadn't been able to get us changed back to port, midship unless we hit rough water. I mean, at least we're still on the ship, right? But it certainly would have started the cruise off on the wrong foot for us. And now it's even more important that they don't change us because I've just rented a scooter and it is to be waiting for me in my cabin.

Bayako, I hope it works out for you.

Once you book with an agent, if a better deal comes up on the same ship, can you cancel and rebook? I've heard of people getting better prices if prices go down but is this common.

A few days after booking they started offering an on board credit, my agent said no, only for new bookings. Cruise is in 6 weeks so I had to pay the entire amount on credit card when I booked.

Do you remember what your early bird booking promotion code was? Just curious because I booked a specific BB balcony on the Sun and got the early bird book promotion also.
