Cruise Junky Posted October 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2010 Was it you that rented a place in St. Remy? Is it something you could share? Thanks
Rare Hlitner Posted October 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2010 Yep it was us. This happened last spring when we rented an apartment in St Remy for 2 weeks. Not much to share as its was a pretty straight forward decision. We had previously traveled pretty extensively in the south of France and, several years ago, decided that one day we would love to spend a few weeks in St Remy. To us, this particular village is in a perfect location within Provence and its the kind of village that most visitors love. Our particular apartment was in an old villa located a few blocks from the center of town. That villa building had been divided into 4 apartments of which one was available for rentals (owned by an Irish lady). There is another CC member who has recently rented another apartment on that same property (they have other buildings that are not in that villa building). Of course staying in this part of France is only practical if you have a rental car. In our situation last year we did a long repositioning cruise from the US to Civitavecchia. We than picked up a rental car in Civitavecchia (kept that car 19 days) and drove to France via a few nights in Florence and a night in Cannes. We ultimately drove back to Italy (you save big bucks dropping a rental car in the same country rented) and dropped the car at Milan and flew on to Ireland for a week. It was a great trip. Hank Our last two trips to Provence, we've rented in Lourmarin, which we love. But also really like St. Remy and were thinking of staying there next time. Rare Hlitner Posted October 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2010 Sorry not to respond, but we are currently on a cruise and have experienced lots of internet connection issues (Grand Princess). If you love Lourmarin we wonder if you really would be happier in a different village. As you already know, there are so many villages full of charm and most experienced travelers have their personal favorites. There is a lot to say for staying in a town with which you already have a good level of comfort....since the real issue is location, location, location. Although we happened to choose St Remy, we would have been happy in many other smaller towns in the region. For us, its a matter of finding a comfortable place to stay that gives us the easy ability to take day trips in any direction. We do prefer the smaller towns for ease of parking and little traffic....as well as the wonderful small town atmosphere. Hank
