Is Carnival moving away from Classic/oldies-dance/cover bands?

Just wondered what you thought...

On our cruises, we've enjoyed listening and dancing to often very good fully-outfitted classic rock cover-bands. Bands like "Blood Power", "Music Asia...etc." have been featured almost every night and given night-club stages.

-With "Free Bird" shouted from the crowd, and anticipating your favorite band request, must we now be forced into the Piano Bar.:eek:not that there's anything wrong with Piano Bars:rolleyes:

-Does the entertainment direction appear to you, as with me, that these bands are getting less time and less appropriate venues...like hallways by the Casino?

-Does it appear they are being replaced with less costly groups ...Duets, and solo performers? ... replaced with the new Comedy Club concept?

...I'm worried that as we board the Dream this Jan. this will truly be the case:(

Anyone else notice the changing direction?

Fellow Classic rockers, please speak up!!

I totally agree. I love me some Blood Power or the Music fill-in-the-blank! We don't do Jazz or 70's easy listening or Latin music. I really wish they would give the cover bands a good venue. I can't imagine the room wouldn't be packed.

I know when we first discovered Blood Power, we literally discovered them by wandering into the cigar bar looking for the internet cafe.

We were on the Liberty last week and they had Blood Power and they are great.

I think the problem is too much entertainment not enough room.

Now that they have the comedy club in the back lounge they are short one venue and as a result the rock band sometimes has to be in the hallway by the casino which kind of sucks.

For some reason they will not allow the rock band in the disco. They want a more intimate setting for the comedy club so it cannot use the main lounge.

As a result for the R rated comedy shows the back lounge does not have the room for all of the people who want to see the show.

As a result not enough time to see all the entertainment we would like. Part of this is we must get a table in the comedy club at least 45 minutes before the show to get good seats.

As a result we missed several shows in the main lounge

You are so right. I am sure there has to be a logical reason behind cramming the comedy club in the back room, but I don't get it. The cruises I have been on in the past three years that had late night comedians had standing room only. It was packed. Quite frankly, it was completely unsafe. People were lined everywhere, sitting on the floor, sitting in aisleways, on stairsteps. I have yet to understand why they don't use the large theater for the midnight show. That's how it was years ago.

I asked the CD a few cruises ago and the answer is they want an intimate setting for the comedy club.

Think it is rather foolish but do not make the rules.

They could do away with Karoke in favor of real singers, bands,

ect , Why should passengers have to entertain each other?

For sure...often very painful...I do understand when someone gets to sing their song with a full band behind them. That's pretty cool, that is, if you don't make a fool out of yourself:eek:

I hope they keep the cover bands...I love them

One of my few disappointments on Liberty was that they had the self proclaimed "only American band" there in the fleet...yuck

seems they regularly have a good group from Phillipines but they were off duty and these guys from Cocoa Beach were there

problems>>> they took forever to get set up, started late, were unfriendly and did not interact at all with audience

>>> they went on long instrumental binges, more like jazz...they seemed to enjoy this but we didn't

>>> huge problem..they kept playing "originals"..their own junk..

it made one realize why so many unknown groups "original music" is unknown..it is just NOT good...their originals were boring, sounded alike, again long instrumentals,

I could not stand them....I hope they bring back the "cover" bands !!

I agree with you Mike, we were on a B2B on the Victory several years ago when Music Network was on-board and we were in there everynight...I think they are just cutting back on expenses and employees...Would like to cruise with you & Wendy again, I know you will love the Dream...There are so many things to do we are going to have to go back and sail it again...Dennis

AL here,

I know the band you speak of , as they like to ask you to support them on the comments cards.

I believe the quality of the Manilla bands comes from playing the originals without deviation from the way IT"s supposed to be played.

Many US Muscians, like to add their own "creative ability" and change the sound no longer resembling the original... they're called CLASSIC".

As far as original stuff...who cares about their personal fulfillment:confused: ? We want the classics played like they're supposed to sound.
