Advice on cruise either from NYC or Ft Lauderdale

We are in NYC from 19-23 April 2011 - we don't know whether to take a cruise from NYC with NCL (only cruised RCL before) or take an internal flight and pay extra down to Ft Lauderdale to get the hot weather straight away. Is it worth paying the extra money for an internal flight (there are 4 of us) to go from Ft Lauderdale or take the cheaper option with no internal flight and go direct from NYC - what will the weather be like end of April out of NYC on a ship? Will it be warm enough to set out do you think? Also can anyone please advise on whether NCL is as good as RCL. We are 2 adults in our 40s and two teenagers 12 and 14.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm a little confused about a five day time frame in NYC and a 7 day cruise...You do not say where you are coming from...What pleasant weather is to you. It will be nice in NYC, but not pool weather. However, Carnival has a cruise to Bermuda on Miracle...and it has a covered pool. Bermuda will not be as warm as the Bahamas, however. EM

If you live in colder climes, then it may be nice weather, for you, but it won't generally be swimsuit weather from the start. Once you get further south, you will probably be able to sun without any wind bothering you....it's generally mid-May before it actually gets warm enough to not have clothes on!

Sorry guys - we are British therefore any weather must be better than ours!!!!!!!!!! Will it be ok, weatherwise in NYC end of April on a ship in the ocean until we get to Bahamas which is were we may go?

We are doing NYC for 4 nights and then want to do a cruise after that for 7 days........

So we won't be able to wear swimsuits possibly until we get to the Bahamas?
