The Cruise Critic Ports section is a good starting point to learn about various ports. Scroll down on this page to the list of ports and click on the ones that you'll be visiting.

Also suggest going to the Roll Call forum to see if a roll call has been started for your cruise....and if not, start one. It's where you'll meet others on your cruise, share ideas about plans, and possibly join up with others to do private tours.

Good luck with your plans.:)

Last summer we stopped in Canne and just did a walking tour of the town and than caught the ferry to the island offshore (can't remember the name) where the "Man in the Iron Mask" was held in the 1600's. The ferry ride was fun but there was not as much too do on the island as I thought there might be before hand. Canne itself is nice with some churches and a great old roman tower you can climb and get great views of the town. The main drag has plenty of shops and cafes to visit.

You did not indicate what type of excursions you like.

Are you a "do it yourself" DIY traveler, do you like the cruise line's excursions or would you be interested in a private/independent tour?

We used Revelation Tours for a fabulous day in the Cannes and surrounding area. We loved Eze and especially St. Paul de Vence.

Revelation will customize your tour any way you want. We joined others from our roll call and the cost was very good.

YES, as noted by the others, it can be very helpful to scroll down through various earlier postings. The big question is about how much you want to do along the more "urban" coastal cities, . . . versus . . . reaching out to more "rural" smaller villages and country areas. Towns like Eze are super wonderful. Tell us more your interests, travel style and past Europe travels. Below are some visuals sample for some of your many great options in this charming and interesting area.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Hi there,

I haven't done Cannes but have done Villefranche. It's alovely little fishing village and most likely you will be tendered ashore. I wouldn't bother taking any ship excursions but jump on the train near the harbour to monaco (monte carlo). You can take a road train trip around the grand-prix circuit and the aquarium is also a must see as well as the royal palace.

Some of the yachts in the Marina there are absolutely amazing!

Hope this helps!
