Wondering about e-cig experiences

I believe there was a thread posted about this where X said that they were not allowed in public areas (unless "regular" smoking is allowed there), probably to cut down on false reports of smoking. They are probably OK in staterooms and on balconies since they won't disturb anyone and are not actually smoking.

Most vapors are ex-smokers. I quit my 28 year smoking habit 7 months ago and now I vape using a personal vaporizer. There is no smoke, no ash, no fire, no smell, no harmful second hand smoke, and no harm to the person vaping. Vaporizers use glycerin, propylene glycol, flavorings, and sometimes nicotine and produce a vapor like shower steam. Some people vape where they can not smoke but most people quit smoking entirely and only vape. Vaping tastes much better than smoking ever did. Mostly I have heard that cruise ships are okay with vaping. I was just wondering if anyone had vaped on a cruise ship lately and if their experience had been positive.

I'm seriously thinking of trying the e-cigs after our 11/17, 12 night cruise on the Explorer! Wonder if they have them in St. Thomas and if any one brand is better/safer than the others? I smoke Eve 120's lights. Any recommendations?

DH says why would they sell them there w/ information as to refills, etc., when the sell cigarettes? A good question. Maybe you have the answer? My answer was money is money..whether cigs or e-cigs? JMO

Thanks in advance. We're leaving next Sunday Morning!

I think there would be a problem on balconies, again due to confusion between e-cigs and actual cigarettes. I have no problem with someone using an e-cig on their balcony(or anywhere else), but I'd need to know about it. If I meet my next-door neighbor and he or she asks if it's okay with me if they "e-smoke" or vape, I'd say go ahead, but what if they're a few cabins down? If I were to see someone apparently smoking on their balcony, I would report it.

I would suggest the OP restrict it to the stateroom and refrain from indulging on the balcony, though I believe the way the current rules are written, they should not be doing it in the stateroom, either.

They aren't going to ask you if it is ok, you aren't going to see them, and you aren't going to smell them.... so I have no idea what it is you think you would be reporting.

People who have no idea what an e-cig is, are the ones who have such definite ideas about what should be done about them...

research is always a good idea when you are arguing from a position of misinformation

On my last cruise, there was a gentleman who had a fake cig. It has a smokey substance coming out of his mouth when he exhaled but I never smelled a thing. I'm a non smoker who dislikes cigarette smoke. Usually my eyes and nose go watery. This fake cig did not bother me at all.

Celebrity has banner ads on the e-cig forum, so I would assume it's ok with them to vape.

I have not been on Celebrity since I started vaping, but last month on Freedom Of The Seas I vaped everywhere except the MDR. Never had a problem. Several people seemed very interested. I made a couple of converts who wanted to give up smoking.

Since I no longer smoke I don't want to be around second hand smoke any more than you do. Why should I be asked to vape in the smoking area.

You can vape in a closed car with someone who hates smoke and cause them no harm or discomfort.

Chances are you only see those ads because you frequent cruising websites. I see Celebrity's banner ads on a football message board that I frequent--friends of mine never see them. Big brother is watching you!

DH and I are sailing on X in 3 weeks over Thanksgiving and I have been vaping for about 7 months. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with e-cigs on a Celebrity ship. Did you vape all over the ship? Did you have any problems. Thanks for the input.:)

You will probably be okay, but be discreet. Don't expect to be able to vape all over the ship just because it's not smoking. Personnel would be likely to tell you to stick to the cabin, mostly because they don't want to deal with reports of people smoking, not because it is or is not allowed.

I could give my four year old kool aid in a Mike's Hard Lemonade bottle, if I wanted to. I'm not doing anything illegal, but I'm showing I have questionable judgment and am practically inviting some questions from authorities. Similarly, using something that looks like a cigarette in areas where cigarettes are not allowed is showing similar judgment and inviting similar questions.

My boss started using an e-cig a few weeks ago. I know I'm going to be bombarded with "hate posts" for saying this, but it does have a slight smell to it. If he vaps right beside me, I definetly can smell it. It kind of reminds me of the smell of burning cig filter from lighting the wrong end of a cigarette (I smoked for 18 yrs and quit 8yrs ago), but not as strong smelling. When I come into work in the morning, I can tell if he has been there already because I can smell the e-cig. I wonder perhaps, if it is the amount of nicotine used that gives it a smell or not?

My E-Cig is bright metallic blue and has a blue led that lights up when activated. It can not possibly be mistaken for a cigarette. Yes ,a very slight aroma can be detected. I vape orange-lime or mojito or bananas foster. MUCH better than tobacco. And a pleasant aroma even to non smoking SMOKE HATERS.

I haven't smoked tobacco in over a year, didn't realize how bad cigarettes stink to a non smoker.

I'm really glad I am no longer part of that problem.

Now if we could only tone down the people that bathe in perfume.

Because this is a relatively new "habit", that many aren't familiar with yet, yes, it will cause confusion with other passengers. Hopefully those using the new methods of "smoking" can educate those folks before raising a "stink" with security. :D

Thanks to everyone who responded with helpful feedback. I love the opportunity to educate people and most people are truly curious about e-cigs. It does sometimes have the odor of whatever you are vaping. I also vape fruit or dessert flavors like pecan pie or pralines and creme or waffles so that it all you would smell. If you vape tobacco flavors, then it might smell a LITTLE like cigarettes as a previous poster stated. No one would ever know if I vaped in my room or on my balcony as the vapor discipates very quickly. I'm looking forward to vaping in the casino. Considering that Celebrity has changed their smoking policy, I'm glad I vape. And so is my husband. I'll let everyone know how it goes.;)

Hi Maniac

I'm from South Orlando near Hunters Creek. My go to PV has become a Kr808 from Vapor4Life. Much less hassle than a 3 piece. Great USA made juice from Tasty Vapor.

To the anti smoking skeptics REJOICE vaping does not stink and there is no second hand smoke. For every one of us that has gone to e-cigs ther is one less smoker to pollute the beautifull fresh sea air.

For fantastic information on this amazing invention check out e-cigarette-forum.com.

I have gone from a pack and a half a day to 0 cigaretts in the last 14 months

Thank You. The strong smell of perfume gives me an instant headache and nausea. Would love to ban all perfume on the cruise, but am sensible enough to realize that's impossible and I can just move away.

e-cigs are the answer to non-smokers prayers.... yet the non-smokers still find fault  What more can we do??? What exactly is it you want from us? Do ya'll ever look in the mirror and think that you could be a 'better' person? Don't know your answer, but, yes, you could be better. E-CIGS ROCK!!!!

Since I have started this thread, people are talking. I intend to vape everywhere except the MDR until I am told otherwise. Nobody will know when we vape on the balcony or in the stateroom. I look at this whole thing as a chance to educate people about the positive effect that vaping has had on my life. I quit a 28 year pack a day habit in 1 week and that was 7 months ago. Hey John- I have never tried a 2 piece unit but I have been eyeing the SDMKII. I live about 2 miles off I-4 and Maitland. Other side of Orlando. VAPE ON!!!!!!!!

This thread has enlightened me to e-cigs, I'm a 1/2 pack a day smoker, and have ordered a single to test it out. Just getting rid of the smell, plus, not inhaling smoke sounds like a plus all around.

Thanks folks...

I used the E-cig to quit. Although I rarely even use that anymore either. I quit about 6 months ago. Although when I first started using it, I still had cravings for actual cigarattes, and did finish up a pack of regular cigs along with my vapor cig (wow, did that give me a nicotine hit!). But after that I just forced myself to use only the vapor and not buy another carton, and within a week had no more cigarette cravings.

And now I rarely even use the e-cig except once in a while I crave it when I have a drink now and then. So I think I will bring it on the cruise, just in case I get the urge while drinking and god forbid cave into buying some cigs.

It is an awesome invention!

Good luck in quitting with your E-cig!
