SueG Posted November 8, 2010 #26 Share Posted November 8, 2010 Sounds like an accurate assessment to me. But isn't this where someone is required to remind that it's all "still better than a day at work"???? I was waiting for a ..... Probably was a smoker. :)
Maeshella Posted November 8, 2010 #27 Share Posted November 8, 2010 I really hope that the Splendor will be *fixed* by Nov 21st! I am booked on that sailing. :)
Max Circus Posted November 8, 2010 #28 Share Posted November 8, 2010 I hope everyone is okay. Very scary situation. The cynic in me is thinking of the people trying to line up at the purser's desk asking for a full refund and a free sailing.
tbjl24 Posted November 8, 2010 #29 Share Posted November 8, 2010 at least they where close to land and not hundreds of miles off the coast where it will take the USCG hours to get to them Yep, this is precisely why if you watch a cruise ship's path they never really stray to far from the coast, if they can. splendor_bride Posted November 8, 2010 #30 Share Posted November 8, 2010 well my wedding is on board the Splendor on Dec 19. Please please please let everything be fine! I've got 40 people attending before half of us set sail for Mexico. I'm no bridezilla, but this has me a little crazy right now

I more than sure that this situation will not stop some cruisers from asking for a refund. Passengers will be dissapointed and they will demand refunds, credit, free things etc, etc. BUT it is what it is. Things happen and thats just it. I was on the Splendor last December and it didnt make it to Mazatlan because of some crashing incident but I still made the best of it. Heck, sure Beats a day here at work! DAllenTCY Posted November 8, 2010 #32 Share Posted November 8, 2010 There is a strong possibility that the Carnival Splendor will disembark in San Diego tomorrow morning. Stay tuned...... David

If it is as bad as the report is making it sound....... I imagine everyone onboard will be receiving a refund. This accident is going to cost Carnival big time in the pockets. ***This just in.....all steaks are now an additional charge. LOL :D:D:D

Stay tuned......David And since that would be a cruise starting and ending in two separate US ports without a visit to a foreign port . . . . . Eeeeek!! DAllenTCY Posted November 8, 2010 #38 Share Posted November 8, 2010 There is another possibility being discussed......Carnival Splendor to dock in Ensenada, Mexico late today and busses to take guests to Long Beach Terminal tomorrow morning. epixx Posted November 8, 2010 #39 Share Posted November 8, 2010 I will find it very interesting to see how Carnival handles this problem, compared with the incompetent way that Celebrity handled the recent Century debacle (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1292056). Maeshella Posted November 8, 2010 #42 Share Posted November 8, 2010 Oh gosh, this has me worried about my cruise on the 21st. I keep reading the forum for a glimpse of good news. I feel so bad for the cruisers on board the ship, and the disappointment that they must feel.
crazy cajun Posted November 8, 2010 #43 Share Posted November 8, 2010 I wonder how many of the passengers were cruising w/ no passport???
DAllenTCY Posted November 8, 2010 #44 Share Posted November 8, 2010 Technically they will be walking across the US-Mexico border if the ship docks in Ensenada, so if they went with a BC instead of a PP, they should be ok. I wonder if the necessary repairs can be completed before next Sunday? David

Coasty Posted November 8, 2010 #46 Share Posted November 8, 2010 It is terrible that this has happened. But with the report of no one getting hurt is the very best part of this story.
crazy cajun Posted November 8, 2010 #47 Share Posted November 8, 2010 First let me say, I HOPE I AM TOTALLY WRONG!!! But i have allways been a realist. I wouldn't expect this ship to be cruising any time soon. If the fire is / was as bad as the news made it out to be there will have to be some engine work done and parts replaced and you just don't go by those kind of parts at auto zone. trailercruiser Posted November 8, 2010 #48 Share Posted November 8, 2010 I am waiting for the"its in the cruise contract that fires happen and we may be dead in the water but no refunds" people to show up.:)
crazy cajun Posted November 8, 2010 #49 Share Posted November 8, 2010 coasty ,one report said 2 passengers and 1 crew suffered panic attacks and the other reported no injuries . Either way the sea gods were watching over that ship . Cause when something goes wrong in the engine room someone usually gets hurt
