Splendor, Splendor, Splendor Combined Thread

Note my earlier post. There are no customs agents (US) or facilities in Ensenada, they would have to move people in place, plus equipment for identification, etc.

While possible, this is not likely.

No they won't. US customs will clear the ship in Ensenada just as if it went back to Long Beach and then bus them home ins "sealed" buses. They will not even stop at the border.

Will passengers not carrying passports have trouble crossing the U.S.-Mexico border?

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) states that while passengers on "closed loop" cruises (itineraries that sail roundtrip from the same U.S. homeport and only visit destinations in the Western Hemisphere) do not need passports, anyone crossing the border from Mexico into the U.S. by land needs a passport or other WHTI-compliant document (birth certificates and driver's licenses won't do). When asked how Splendor passengers not carrying passports will be able to cross the border by bus, Gulliksen told Cruise Critic that "we're working with the proper authorities to address this situation."

That is an easy fix. The just hook up with one of the border "tour guides" and they will show them a hole in the fence and there are back in the US.

Check the thread. I called ICE and this was asked and answered, in short they may be delayed depending on what other documentation they have.

No, that is not correct ...

Incorrect. Yes, there are exceptions for SAR, but those only apply when there is an immediate my emphasis risk to life and limb which does not appear to be the case here.

Yes, I am sure the authorities will do everything possible to minimize the difficulties, and it would surprise me if anyone was fined (passengers) but they are also not going to waive immigration requirements.

Ladies and Gentleman may I remind you that this is a SAR operation and is above any immigration law? Nothing will happen, no fine no problems, law at sea are very clear.

Believe me, there are some terrible jobs out there where I can believe this to be true. Not everyone has the pleasure of a decent job. I have plenty of people under me at work who work on the average of a 15 hour day. No break. They are on their feet the whole time making sure their job is getting done correctly. I would bet any of these people who work this type of job would not care where they were as long as they were off work. Don't tell them to go get another job, because there is nothing out there in my neck of the woods.

Eating cold food and going to the bathroom in a bucket for a few days is not going to kill anyone. Doesn't anyone camp anymore??

My kids love "CAMP CARNIVAL"

I found a few pictures of the relief efforts and the Splendor just sitting there in the water.

Enjoy,

Scott

These pictures look like stock photos. Why would they need thousands of Sysco plastic tumblers? Pretty sure they have plenty of cups on board...

Ship not under command fell in a good SAR option, it is happened before

Officially, an 'enhanced' driver's license is acceptable, but as far as I know no states have been certified as such.

Your sister was lucky, she could have (and should have) been held for additional verification. If there are only a few people, and your state keeps on line information up to date, validation can just take a few moments, but with the number of potential people in this situation, I think the chaos factor will expand that.

I think under the circumstances, that the people without passports will only have to show their birth certificates and another piece of I.D. My sister's passport was stolen in Mexico and she did not realize it until she got to the border and all they asked her for was a copy of her birth certificate and another piece of photo ID. They then instructed her to get a replacement of her passport as soon as she could. BTW, this just happened 2 weeks ago.

A true cruise to nowhere......

Now that being said, I am happy that no one was injured. I can see that there may be some issues with refrigeration (I am thinking medical - insulin) but I am sure there was enough ice on board to keep those items cold unitl fresh ice can be delivered. Would I want to be on the ship....maybe.. it certainly would be a cruise to remember. I cannot see anyone becoming upset with Carnival considering the compensation that they will receive, but I am sure there will be some that don't think it is enough.

Cheers to John and crew, I am sure they are doing all they can to keep the passengers happy.

I'm not sure what that means, however I was just flipping channels and on (I think) MSNBC, someone from ICE just said that passengers will be subjected to normal screening, but expedited as fast as possible.

Dishwater dont work with no power and crew does not want to wash all of the cups and plates by hand

As mentioned earlier, no hot water to wash dishware... So it's one use and put aside.

Daily special cups are all over the place. Again, they all look like stock photos. Why would somebody in an official capacity post these perfect professional photographs on flicker?

CARNIVAL SPLENDOR - NOVEMBER 14, 2010

November 9, 2010

Dear Carnival Guest:

The Carnival Splendor experienced a fire in the engine room on the sailing that departed Sunday, November 7, 2010. The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries to our guests or crew. As a result of the fire, we must cancel the November 14, 2010 voyage in order for necessary repairs to be completed. We know how much you were looking forward to sailing with us and we sincerely apologize for this disruption to your vacation plans.

We recognize that vacations are important and our team is standing by to help you find another Carnival cruise that works with your schedule.

Here are your options:

• Reschedule immediately on another voyage - we have a wide variety of options for you.

• Cancel and have us hold your payment for any future Carnival cruise departing within 24 months.

• Cancel and receive a full refund, inclusive of Carnival's air supplement, optional land packages, Vacation Protection Plan and government fees and taxes. No further action on your part is necessary, as refunds will automatically be processed in three weeks.

In addition, we will provide you with a 25% discount on any future 2-7 day Carnival cruise.

If you purchased independent air transportation and need to make changes to accommodate a new departure, we will reimburse up to $200 per person (via a refundable on board credit) for airline change fees so long as documentation is provided. If you purchased non-refundable independent air and are unable to reschedule your cruise, please send documentation regarding your airline expenses to our Guest Admin Department, fax# 305-406-6477 so that we may refund the cost of your ticket.

We request you contact our Guest Services Department at 1-800-CARNIVAL or your Personal Vacation Planner at 1-800-819-3902, or your travel agent with your preference as soon as possible.

Again, we apologize for the cancellation of this cruise. We would love the opportunity to welcome you on another Carnival ship.

Sincerely,

Vicky Rey, CTC

Vice President - Guest Services

I imagine that the drinkable water is extremely limited. Therefore, paper plates and plastic table ware would be the best idea.

What would you do just sit and watch the water? Casinos closed....more then likely bars closed.....no hot food......they can't run the filter in the pools......seriously what is there to do on this free cruise? Not to mention people are using vacation days which will not be refunded......

Bars closed?:confused::(:eek:

Do they want a riot, too?
