Using on board credit for gambling

I am wondering about the logistics of using some of our on board credit in the casino for our upcoming cruise. Can anyone explain exactly how this is done? Thanks.

Ellie

You set up an account in the casino and add a credit to your casino account.

This would then be charged to your stateroom account and be offset by the OBC.

Actually, it depends on the ship. On the ships that don't have the capability to do this at the machines (the small ships of Princess, and possibly some ships that haven't converted their machines yet), you are charged 3%. I know - I paid that just last month. :(

OP is sailing on the Grand.

All you have to do is click on a poster's name; then when you get to their information check on their posts. I post frequently on the roll call boards for all my cruises, and I am going on Grand princess Dec. 6. There is your answer to the "mind reading mystery" I am sure.

Thank you. :)

Hi Ellie,

I was recently on the Coral and got credit several times via the slots. To play the slots on the Coral, which I guess is the same on the Grand which you have to set up a pin number associated with your cruise card as all your winnings and losses are recorded on this card; hence no paper slip is printed out from the machine when you cash out your winnings. To retrieve your winnings you have to present your card to the casino cashier who scans it and asks you to enter your pin and then your are given your winnings in cash.

On the slot machines where you enter your pin you have the option via using the machine buttons to request credit which you enter the amount you want by pressing the appropriate buttons. The credit amount you requested if approved is transfered onto your card and you can either cash it out, or just continue to play off it.

I was charged a 3% fee for these casino cash advances and would have probably used the ATM instead but it was not working for most of the cruise which the casino host informed me happens quite often. She told me the ATM on the Coral is owned and operated by some bank in Ft. Lauderdale, and if the machine goes down only the bank can access and fix it which can be done sometimes remotely depending on the problem but that too does not happen often.

I will be sailing on the Ruby in January and plan to bring some travelers checks as back up which are easily cashed on the ship.

That is not our experience with using the cruise card in the slot machines on the Grand. We were NOT charged 3%. Believe me, if that had been the case my hubby would have stopped doing it immediately.

But your definitely sounds funny. There was no mention of "credit" except that is the term that slot machines use for the money already in the machines. And it absolutely said "no fee" right on the slot machine.
