Anyone done AI day pass at the Radisson recently?

P&O have just changed our itinerary around totally for our cruise in Feb and we are now spending our last day in Aruba.

 

We would like to do an AI day at a hotel, we are a party of 6 me, hubby, 3 kids and mil - has anyone done this at the Radisson recently and can give me any feedback please?

We were just in Aruba and took a taxi to the Radisson. The taxi's will only take 5 people for $14 USD. Maybe you can grab a cab with other people outside the ship and split up. Many people were doing just that. If you walk a block toward the stores, supposedly the fare is only $11 from there.

 

Anyway, we spent the day at the Radisson. Based upon the towels on the beach, it was filled with ship customers. We thought we'd spend the $18 to use the beach, but the cab driver said it's free if we put our towels in the sand. It was free. When we walked to the beach, we were bombarded with people trying to sell us chairs and umbrellas for $6 pp. When we walked about 5 feet, it went down to $5 pp. Anyway, we put our towels in the sand. We purchased several rounds of drinks at $10 a drink, so at least we felt we were giving the hotel some business. Upon the return, cabs don't like to take you in bathing suits. It's best if you change. We had to wait for about 6 cabs to pass us, before one would take us. The bell hop outside the hotel helped us get a cab and we tipped him. PS, we also used the swimming pool

If it was just me, DH and kids I would be happy to take the towels and sit on the beach but we have my 79 year old mother-in-law with us so she will need a chair and probably some shade.

 

Did you see if the hotel provided chairs and shade if you brought the day pass?

 

Thanks also for the heads up on the swimming cossie thing - I guess they are ok if you have the cossie on but something over the top like a sundress? Do men have to change out of their swimming shorts then?

Definitely buy from the people on the beach, since it's much cheaper.

Do men have to change out of their swimming shorts then? We were just about to change our clothes, when a cab pulled up that would take us. It didn't matter that I had something over my suit and it was dry. Many of them have cloth seats and don't want them to get wet. It didn't matter if you were male or female. There is a very nice bathroom in the lobby, where you can change, or behind the bar at the beach, there are bathrooms. Have fun

1. True, all beaches in Aruba are public. You may use any of them without paying; however, chairs and palapas belong to the resorts

Maybe we shouldn't have used the pool, but we did. (not the chairs around the pool though). We did order our drinks around the pool, so I felt comfortable that they were making money from us)

we just spent a week at The Radission in Aruba,and to get to their beach you have to go by boat, there are no venders there on the private beach, and at the pool you cannot pay cash for drinks that is how they know if you are a guest or a visitor, most of the ships dock across the street at the pier and it is about a 5 minute walk to the Hotel,

if the hotel is full you cannot get a day pass for the beach, it is a beautiful place and for those that have their laptops there is a starbucks on lower level with free internet, and a shopping mall that is $$$$$, a casino, there are several nice place to stop and have a cold drink and something to eat, Aruba is expensive but beautiful,

that's good to know that they have a private beach. If I go to Aruba, I think I will stay there. Good you don't have to concern yourself with the millions of cruise passengers that get dropped off there

If you were not aware, this hotel is not on a beach; it's right downtown. You must take a boat to get to the beach. It's not my choice when staying on a land trip to Aruba.

Yes, it's on a private island and you must take the Renaissance's boat to get there. If they are offering passes, and they weren't the last time I was there, it was pretty expensive, IMO.

Basically the Aruba Cruise Tourism website lists them as available.

A forum member emailed them and was told they are not offered.

Another forum member went 12/3 and was able to purchase them.

 

You may want to take your chances, go to the lobby to see if they will send you one and if they do not, just have a "plan B" in mind.

No, this was in response to the poster who wasn't staying at the hotel and didn't purchase a day pass. She was not supposed to use the pool.

Ah! gotcha..sorry for the confusion. Yes, I do agree with that, someone who isn't staying at the hotel or purchasing a day pass should not be using the pool.
