Booze on Crooze??

Hey Everybody! My fam (me, DH, children: 21, 20, 14 & 14) is taking our first cruise on Dec 26th. Our ports are: Samana, St Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay. My question is about the 20 yr old: I know the drinking age in Tortola is 18, so if she has a painkiller or 2 it's legal, how does that work for getting back on the ship? I dont understand all of this drinking age thing, I guess.. Will she be able to have a beer on the ship? (NCL Pearl)

She cant legally drink on the ship. I know some parents buy booze for their children and slip it to them ..thats up to you if you want her to drink. The fact that some other country has a lower drinking age, doesnt change the drinking age on the ship to the Caribbean. That being said I think if you were cruising in Europe, she could drink on the ship, or so Iv heard for european cruises .. but not for those ports.

"With the exception of Alaska and Hawaii itineraries, (Where you must be 21 years of age to consume or purchase alcohol of any kind) NCL permits guests between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty (20) to purchase and personally consume wine and beer while on NCL ships with the consent of an accompanying parent or legal guardian on the same sailing once the vessel is outside the US state territorial waters (3 miles out). Complete details and special consent form are only available onboard at the Reception Desk. *If you want to gamble in our casinos, you must have a valid ID showing you are 18 years or older. If a guest under the age of 18 wins in the casino and can not provide proof of age, he or she will not be paid the winnings. There are no casinos on our ships in Hawaii".

Off the ship, the local rules, not the ship's rules apply. So if the drinking age is 18 in Tortola, she can drink to her hearts content.

Thank you! Ive read this many times.. I am not her parent, I am her aunt - so will I be able to "sign" for her?? She isnt a big drinker or anything but if she wants to have a margarita one day I would like to make that possible without getting into any serious trouble.

Thank you - I wont be "slipping" her any alcohol if it isnt legal, I just would like to know what IS legal.. She is not a big drinker, but I would like to make it possible for her to have a drink on-ship if she chooses without getting into any trouble.

My reading is that usless you are the Legal Guardian, then you could not sign and she could not drink on the ship. She could still drink off the ship subject to local laws.
