How much to wash?

Don't bother, do you really want to waste your cruise time washing and drying your clothes? They normally have a laundry special, everything you can fit in a bag for I think $15? Budget for it and roll the clothes up really tight and you can get a lot in those bags.

I don't recall how much it was on our last cruise on Ecstasy, but it seems like it was less than the $3/$3 quoted above. We ended up using the laundry multiple times on the cruise as it was located within about a 30 second walk from our cabin, and was very under utilized until the last day of the cruise. Even at the end when their were signs of use people tended to be very trusting and left the laundry running unattended, and I never saw another person in the laundry room, which was rather warm.

Go to Target/ Walmart or similar places and get the single laundry soap packet (located in the travel items section) for $1.00. Beats the ship's vending machine prices and so easy to pack.

The laundry room also has irons and ironing boards.

BTW, you must pay the self-serve machines in quarters.

It really doesnt take time out of my vacation- I take my laundry and run it to the washer on my way to breakfast. By the time I am done--the laundry is just about done.

I throw it in the dryer and go get ready for the day- by the time we are heading out-- the dryer is done. Folded and I dont have to worry about tons of wash when we get home---nor do we have to pack a lot.

Those laundry bags-- are they only for certain types of clothes..Like shorts/tee shirts--nothing heavy like jeans. and a pair of Khakis-- wouldnt that take up most of the room?

one iron, and one ironing board. And it's set up for Right-Handed People. If you need to iron for elegant night, go early. :)

My guess based on answers is, it may vary from ship to ship.

On Elation recently, 3 dollars to wash and 3 dollars to dry for 90 minutes. Need quarters. The detergent and softener is one dollar each per load and limited choices.

Machines worked good. Two irons and boards.

There was a machine to convert dollars to quarters in casino.

Haven't used laundry on any other ship - seems to be similar experiences with slight variances.

Have fun!

It was great using the free wash and fold on the Elation last week. Sent laundry in 3 times in 9 days. It was the first cruise that I have been on where the first thing to do when getting home was not to throw a load in the washer. I have decided that is one of the best Platinum perks.

Even better are the Purex sheets. Each one contains soap, fabric softener, and an anti-static strip. you put them in with the wash and move it to the dryer with the clothes. The packages are rather large, so I take out 3-4 and put them in a zip lock baggie. They pack so flat and you don't have to worry about spillage. You can get them fragrance free, too.

the bags are for whatever you can fit in them. Last time was in September so we did not have any jeans but I believe I got two pair of my shorts, two of DH's (heavy cargo shorts) at least 3 each tshirts and muliple underwear. This was Victory out of San Juan and the laundry was ALWAYS packed, there was a large group of on that cruise who seemed to do a lot of wash.

It may be cheaper to do it yourself but I'm not spending a minute on laundry while on a cruise. I have to do all the packing and unpacking and repacking as it is.

Using the self-serve laundry is really not a hassle. Its a great option for not taking alot of clothes. Remember the best times to wash is late at night, and before 6am in the morning. We put our things in the wash, return to our cabin for room service breakfast, but check the items frequently, then return to put them in the dryer, and check to make sure when they are done. Courtesy to fellow passengers is key in removing items promptly when they're finished.

When I was single, and living in apartments, I did laundry once a week. When I was married, with one child, did laundry once a week. Now that I have a house, my own laundry and go on cruises, still do laundry but once a week. Don't see why I would get up at 6 am to do laundry, when I could just as easy do at home when I get back.

However, the laundry is pretty inexpensive, if you really want to do it.

We would not have wasted the time to wash clothes, but now that we will be platinum for our next cruise in May, we will have to try it, would be nice to come home with clean clothes!! :)

Its truly a great thing. Leave your bag of dirty laundry in your cabin in the morning, and come back in the evening after dinner to freshly washed and folded laundry! We came home from our last cruise with all of our clothes washed. All we had to do when we got home was to open our suitcases and transfer our clean and folded clothing to the drawers.

Some of the Platinum perks are a joke, but the free laundry is definitely a great perk!
