smokng policy

Recommended Posts

we have been cruising out of ft.lauderdale and miami on celebrity because of their strict smoking policies. we can't be around smokers for health reasons. what are the smoking rules on royal caribbean? we live in st.petersburg and would love to cruise out of tampa but have heard that they smoke all over the royal ships and some people even say that you can't get into the casino's because of the smoke. what are you non smokers opinions or complaints on royal and also carnival cruise lines smoking policies?

Sometimes I have to leave the casino it's so bad - the smoking policy is actually my largest complaint (and only actually) regarding RCI. You can smoke in the English Themed pub too which really sucks b/c I love craft beer and they have a few so/so brews on tap.

On the pool deck it's not so bad but sometimes walking down the promenade you will get plumes of smoke. You would think by now they would just designate smoking to outdoors. The smoke just has nowhere to go... I can co-exist with smokers but I don't see why in today's age it's still done indoors on cruise ships. You cannot smoke in any restaurants or bars in CT or NY or really anywhere around here. I think it's only a matter of time before they catch on.

I send in a complaint after every trip. I figure if enough people complain maybe they will change something. However, it is not enough of an inconvenience for me to choose a different line. I just deal with it...

We've mainly cruised RCI and are very big nonsmokers and have really not had any problems. BUT, we don't drink or gamble so the smoking in the bars and casino have no affect on us.

As for the other areas of the ship, the smoking areas are clearly marked and as long as we stay away from them there is no problem. However, we will only book inside and promanade cabins until RCI restricts smoking from the balconys. So when we want to spend more money... Celebrity gets the call.

I am not excited about the smoking policy on Royal, but at least it's slightly better than in the past. Smoking is allowed on the starboard side of the pool deck, the casino is usually full of smoke along with most of the lounges, balconies and such. Even walking down the Promenade of Allure, we could smell smoke coming out of the various smoking allowed venues. Fifty percent of our balcony cabin experiences have been ruined because of heavy smokers in the up wind cabin right next to us.

There have been numerous smoker verses non-smoker threads that were quite heated on this subject in the past, so I hope it doesn't start again here. As non-smokers, we have a right not to breathe the smoke and the smokers have a right to smoke if they want, but it shouldn't affect me though. It's hard to find a middle ground on this unless they eliminate most of the smoking like Celebrity does.

Neither of the ships (Radiance/Jewel) currently scheduled to sail out of Tampa have a Royal Promenade or an English-themed Pub, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Well.. there isn't an issue to those specifics but it's still an issue.

I also write it on every survey the last night of the cruise.

Not all the English pubs allow smoking, Oasis, Allure, Mariner and Liberty do at the moment, it seems to change with hotel directors

We have never experienced this.

Which don't? It's seemed pretty consistent throughout to me...

We have never sailed on a Royal ship were the English pub was non-smoking.

My DH and I love to gamble, and lately I have to leave the casino because of the smoke. The worst ship was Oasis. The casino smelled of stale smoke even when closed. They have a none smoking side, but it still didn't help. You just don't have the smoke right next to you.

We tried the English Pub on the Navigator because I heard the entertainer was good, but we had to leave because of the smoke.

But yet I still cruise with RCCL. We may have to try Celebrity

We have switched over FROM Celebrity to Royal Caribbean because of their smoking policy. My husband likes to smoke a cigar most nights when on vacation. We started on Celebrity because Michael's Club was a dedicated cigar club. Then, they changed it to a non-smoking piano club. Now on Celebrity, he would have to sit on a bar stool on an upper deck in whatever the weather. So we will be on Royal Caribbean as long as they have a Connoisseur's Club.

It seems to me that while there are rude smokers, there can also be rude non-smokers. (None of you above.) Most smokers just want a place where they can be comfortable and not be harassed for enjoying their particular vice.

Interesting. In the future, I will send a "Thank You" to RCI for allowing smoking.

Good for you.

Rightfully so. I'm not saying that I would like to make the entire ship non-smoking but if I would like to do something in particular on the boat I just don't want to have smoke being shoved in my face. There's got to be a better way and currently it's my opinion that the rules regarding smoking are not fair. But it is what it is and we deal with it.

But when I'm around smoke it gives me a killer headache the next day and my entire face swells. But at the same time I enjoy a good beer and some live music. Oh well.. that's life I suppose.

Besides the smoking policy what are some major differences between the two lines? Maybe I'll look into Celebrity.

guys we hate smoking. It's so anti social and bad for your health. I'm more tolerant than my husband, he's so anti smoking I find his reaction embarrassing at times so was worried about taking our RCCL cruise in November. We had a hump cabin on the 9th floor. BUT it was not an issue at all. I remember maybe seeing about three ppl smoking. Never smelt any smoke once, never saw any plumes of smoke anywhere. Never smelt smoke on the balcony. Didn't use the casino but walked through it a few times... no probs.

Honest if there was a problem we'd have noticed it. I think there were smokers there but they were considerate and never caused a problem.

You likely didn't spend much time at any bars or the casino (as you stated). There is a lot of smoking on the boats but it certainly does depend on your interests as to whether or not it's goign to bother you.

As a non-smoker, I hate smelling smoke when I am trying to enjoy my balcony. I agree that smokers have the right to smoke, but not to make ME smell it. If Royal wants to allow smoking on balconies, why don't they make the balconies on ONE side of the ship smoking, and the balconies on the other side non-smoking? Just like smoking is only allowed on ONE side of the pool deck? That would make more sense.

thanks so much for the replys. it means a lot to us before we find out the hard way. it will be better for us to travel down to miami and ft lauderdale and cruise with celebrity, than to go out of our own city port. we like to gamble and go to some of the lounges that they have and we just can't deal with the smoking policy that other cruise lines have.

Smoking isn't allowed on balconies because when smokers flick their cigarettes into the water, there is a good chance that the wind will carry the butt into another balcony room, now it is an ignition source and could cause a fire.

As will we. We cruise RCI BECAUSE they allow smoking on our balcony, and would patronize a different line if that were changed.

Just like non-smokers want a place to relax and not smell the smoke to enjoy the fresh air!:D Each of these is a valid point.

It's almost the same with me; my sinuses swell which gives me a headache.

O boy! A brand new topic!

This may be true on Celebrity (I have heard), but not any Royal ship. They let you smoke on the balconies, but I wasn't sure which cruiseline you were referring to.
