smokng policy

Recommended Posts

Our last Navigator, they actually had a smoke free casino night. We happened to walk through that night and got a kick it was pretty empty. hmmmmm? We were on the Allure inaugural sailing (after the two or three free cruises to nowhere that some took) and couldn't get over the smokey smell in the casino already.

Formal nights on RCL the casino is non-smoking. Lynda

Not only is the Wig and Gavel smoking again, it is full smoking, very inconsiderate to the singer in there. When smoking was restricted to the bar area it was not so bad, but with people smoking right in front of the singer, very bad for him

Sorry to hear that............:(

The Oasis has a split casino, half smoking, half non-smoking. Even as a smoker, we noticed the smell into the first row of machines on the nonsmoking side but after that couldn't smell anything. The idea of half a ship smoking and nonsmoking would be a logisitical and scheduling nightmare for RCI to try and fill up the ships. I've read folks suggest the rear cabins be smoking and forward nonsmoking. What happens when a nonsmoker wants an aft facing cabin? Or you are travel ing south from Alaska and want a port cabin for the view and they are all smoking? Carnival has tried the nonsmoking ship and couldn't make it profitable. I have no problem with designated smoking areas aboard ships and not smoking in the cabins (we don't smoke in our house). I won't argue about the nonsmoker that sits out on his balcony all day just to complain about smokers doing something perfect legit on his deck either. I've been on enough cruises to know no one sits on their balcony all day onboard smoking or otherwise. Sometimes a little courtesy goes a long way if you ask politely most smokers will oblige nonsmokers but in return expect the same courtesy of being allowed to have a smoke for 10 or so minutes it takes. As for leaving your doors open on the balcony, isn't that frowned on by the cruiselines anyway because of the effect it has on the AC and the awful whistle it creates under your cabin door!

Yeah, the room spray stuff. I haven't actually tried it or anything, but just trying to come up with something that would help in the event of having smoking neighbors (short of trying to ask the neighbors not to smoke out there, which I think is rude to ask if smoking is allowed).

I know its windy out there, but if the smoke can hang around long enough to be smelled, maybe the odor eater/room spray could hang around long enough to help with the smoke.

I don't smoke and don't really care if people do. On my last cruise I had a balcony and never smelt smoke at all! But I have a question for you..... Do you really honestly think that cigerette smoke on a moving ship at sea is going to really hang around the smokers balcony or your balcony????? Or the fabreeze for that matter... You not serious...are you???

The stuff works great! You have to spray it directly on to the offending smoker however....it's like that wasp spray that can squirt like 25 feet.....so it might get somebody a bit ticked off.

But if you get the right angle from around the balcony partition, you can get a great shot that will not only eliminate the smoke, but the smoker as well.

:D

The Mariner in Jan. was non smoking but I read since it is back to smoking? It was great to be able to enjoy the singer and sit in there without the smoke!! The male singer was so happy too, he said his voice is a lot better without the smoke right in front of him while he plays his guitar and sings.

I was on the MOTS in October and the pub was smoking. I had heard and thought that it was non-smoking but alas not so. I did sit outside across from the pub and it was endurable while I listened to the performer. I can say that because of the smoking policy, it held down my bar tab. I like good beer which leaves out the pablum that is forced on us (bud/miller/coors). I drank a lot of water that cruise! My kegerator at home has Samuel Adams Winter Lager in it right now. It is nice and hoppy. Cheers.

He is a considerate smoker and tries not to upset non-smokers, but he will smoke on our balcony if smoking is allowed. If approached politely, he will wait until people on the adjoining balconies are not using their balconies. But, if he is approached rudely, then he will assert his right to smoke where the rules allow.

I myself am a cigar smoker.

What I like to do to be completely polite to my balcony neighbors and approach them and to tell them that I am a smoker and I do not want my smoking to bother them.

If they are out on their balconies, can you throw a towel on the divider between our balconies to let me know you guys are out there. If I don't see a towel, I know it is OK for me to go out on my balcony and light up a cigar.

This has worked well on my last 3 RCCL cruises....

Sometimes I have to leave the casino it's so bad - the smoking policy is actually my largest complaint (and only actually) regarding RCI. You can smoke in the English Themed pub too which really sucks b/c I love craft beer and they have a few so/so brews on tap.

On the pool deck it's not so bad but sometimes walking down the promenade you will get plumes of smoke. You would think by now they would just designate smoking to outdoors. The smoke just has nowhere to go... I can co-exist with smokers but I don't see why in today's age it's still done indoors on cruise ships. You cannot smoke in any restaurants or bars in CT or NY or really anywhere around here. I think it's only a matter of time before they catch on.

I send in a complaint after every trip. I figure if enough people complain maybe they will change something. However, it is not enough of an inconvenience for me to choose a different line. I just deal with it...

I just received a questionaire from Royal Caribbean and I let them know that we didn't care for all the indoor smoking on our last cruise, and will no longer cruise with RC unless the policies change. I have also sent in a complaint after every cruise, but it just seems to get worse. We are going to try Celebrity next time. Maybe they care, maybe they don't!

I guarantee that Celebrity does care and really enforces the smoking policy. We have tried 2 RCI cruises and will be returning to Celebrity even tho we are only 2 points from Diamond+ because of this.

We just got off the Radiance yesterday. Based on that experience, this topic is the most overblown topic I have seen discussed on this board. There are people in this world who are not happy unless they are bitching about something, and they seem attracted to the internet and this topic for some reason. I am soooo finished with this thread and any others even remotely related.

Most have actually been pretty civil here, discussing a legit topic and potential solutions to a problem...

Well the febreeze thing, I am only half serious. Just playing around with ideas. And your disdain doesn't really discourage me either :).

As far as being able to smell and be bothered by other's smoke on a balcony on a moving ship - do you think all the people who post that this bothers them are lying? Yes, it does hang around, and yes it can be very bothersome.

But like I said in my previous posts, I feel uncomfortable asking someone not to smoke on their balcony when it is perfectly within their right to do so. Just trying to come up with some alternatives, silly or not.

So if the smoke hangs around, I thought maybe the febreeze would hang around as well. Who knows, might be worth a try. We do spend quite a bit of our time on the balcony when on ship.
