Gambling on Alaska Cruises

Some of the ships make long loops out from the coast in order to open the casinos.

Those runs for international waters aren't done anymore - the casinos are open in Alaska and Canadian waters, against the exact wording of the regulations. That's why Alaska wants a percentage of casino revenues for the period that they're open in Alaska waters.

I'm just really curious why a casino would be important on an Alaska cruise??? Maybe it is just me (I RARELY hit the casinos worldwide, including those in South America where I travel frequently and the odds are VERY good), but aren't there gambling places in almost every state in the USA anymore??? My employees (truck drivers) sure find casinos in almost every state-I have banned travel across I-80 in Nevada due to the amount of casinos and repeated requests for "advance" money. My trucks travel to Northern CA via Bakersfield-saves me a whole lot of hassle even though it is about 175 miles out of the way.

MUCH better odds other places, "players" cards and all that stuff. My neighbor hits up Ramada Express's next to casinos in the USA on her business travels. We have had some VERY luxurious trips to Laughlin for Bike Week compliments of her "players club" points. Just don't get gambling on a cruise ship, particularly in Alaska. Call me weird.

Gambling is a choice of the customer, and I am one who believes that you should not limit consumer choice. Personally, I don't gamble. On occassion I will play poker, and I did a lot of that in college. For me there are better ways to spend my time and money. Now fine wine is another story.

Some people obviously enjoy gambling when there's nothing to see out the windows anyway (okay, some would gamble even while cruising Glacier Bay). I sat down at a cruise ship slot machine for the first time this year - lost 20 bucks in 5 minutes and will never sit down in such a place again - YMMV :D

There's no such thing as a winner at a Cruise ship casino, just SLOW losers, in some cases it's a fast loser. I always stay away from them.

There would be no casinos if the odds weren't in the casino's favor. What a concept.

On a recent Carnival cruise I won a lot of money at craps, and I'm a very conservative bettor. If I had some backbone, I would have needed a large duffel bag to get all my winnings home.

I enjoy time in the Casino on a Cruise. I won't go on a Disney Cruise since there is no Casino.

Everyone is different.

The Cruise lines are making Plenty of money in the Casino. They will want them open as much as possible.

We always have come out ahead in the Casino on a Cruise.
