Slot Pull: Questions on how to organize

I will defer to Ann to send you the reminder slip, as this is her show! I was the one that most recently did the two slot machine pull, so I'll offer you my thoughts.

First, it's smart to have two machines ready to go, just in case, but I had about 1/3 to 1/4 of the folks that signed up before the cruise not show up - even after the reminder slips. We were able to sub a few write-in candidates at the Cruise Critic party so it almost evened out. Anyhoo, long way of saying that when you are actually doing the slot pull, you may only need one machine.

Assuming you need both machines, I had two copies of Ann's spreadsheet ready to go. Each sheet had about half the participants pre-loaded - we added the write-ins by hand. My DH and I each had a sheet and a machine. We kept track of the overall winnings and individual winnings on our sheet. At the end of the pull, we added up the total winnings and divided it up by the number of slot pullers. Take both machine printed tickets to the Cage and then distribute the winnings!

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

I encourage all of you to come back and give a report on how it went. Lesson's learned for the rest of us!

REMINDER – SLOT PULL

Sunday September 30 2:00 PM

Meet at the Promenade Bar on the Starboard side of the ship– Promenade Deck 7 midship. Bring $15 or get change at the cashier cage in the Casino before your turn. (3 $5.00 bills or $5.00 and a $10 bill). That will give you 5 spins on the machine.

I am organising a slot pull on my next two cruises. I have never had a 'card' for the casino I do not know what they are for or how you get/use them. The first slot pull I am arranging is on the Diamond Princess do we need to get cards for this? I was thinking of collecting the money and getting the casino desk to change it into 100$ notes so we could put them into the machine quickly.

Am I doing this wrong? Please advise what I should really do as it is my first time and of course if I need a card I need to get it early on;);)

I would always collect in advance, this does several things:

1. Gives some insurance they will show for their turn and wait for the pay-out. Otherwise they may wander away if you are not winning.

2. Speeds the play for large groups as the money is all entered ahead. Bill accepters can be finicky on some machines.

3. Gives you a chance to give them the low down on how it will go.

4. You know that all the money is in correctly. They are not fumbling for change or putting in the wrong amount etc.

5. You can easily close out the play list spreadsheet before you start the pull so you know who is signed up. No late comers once you start winning, trying to cash in without the risk.

You could get big bills as you suggest, or if you want, hold onto the entry cash and download an equivalent amount onto the machine from your sign and Sail account. Then you might not need to go to the cage to cash out and get change the for pay-out.

If the the slot pull is immediately following the M&G you can sign people up and collect there then go together to the casino after.

Having some singles with you is not a bad idea either. Once, the casino cage did not want to part with theirs so I had to go to the Visitor Services desk, wait in line to get some before I could pay out:mad:.

What seems to be the consensus on alerting the Casino Manager of the Slot pull event? Good idea or not?

Thanks in advance.

Karen

Karen,

If you read back in this whole thread, there are opinions both ways. I choose not to tell the Casino Manager as I do not want them to sway the group toward one machine or another. I also feel that if you alert them far enough ahead of time, they MAY possibly be able to set the machine to not pay off as often. Do not know that is a truth but it just the way I personnally feel. Many others that have posted here feel that you should notify the Manager in advance. Just do what you feel is best for your group.

I can download it and will include it with the other information on the Slot Pull. I had used a smaller reminder (actually one that I can print 3/page and cut them up). And the only reason I used a samller one was that usually I had told people about the process for a slot pull in advance. Here is what I put on my reminder notice

But yours is great because it has pictures too.

Thanks so much for your feedback.

Hi there, could you also send me all the good slot pull stuff you've put together? And bless your little heart for it, too! :p irenenhanes at msn

Ann,

I just surfed onto this thread because I've volunteered to host a slot pull, and apparently you are the person to ask! I don't know if you ever intended to be the ultimate authority on the subject, but Google and CC seem to think so! Yay for me!

If I may impose on you, could you please send me the email and spreadsheet everyone refers to on the thread? My CC group and I thank you very much in advance! My email is g o t o p a m @ g m a i l dot c o m.

Regards...Pam

Other than maybe the first one or two persons, that number will be zero. It is the number noted that is on the machine that you have already won when perhaps the 4th person goes up to pull. Maybe#1, 2 and 3 made a total of $12 and that is on the machine prior to #4's turn. So #4 goes to pull and will get 5 times at the machine. And say when #4 is done, there is now $27 on the machine. That way you can subtract and know that #4 made $15 for the group on his/her pulls . If you do not record the number prior to a person starting, you will not remember how much their 5 pulls won. at the end of the whole thing, you are going to give back the uneven change to the person who made the most $ on their turn for the group. this just helps you figure who made the most money on their pulls. I hope that is semi-clear. Not a great job explaining it however.

You are so welcome. I am just happy that people are getting the word out and hopefully enjoying the Slot Pull as it does bring Cruise Critic people closer; just like a Meet and Greet..

I absolutely agree that I would not give the Casino advance warning of your arrival. I have run 2 slot pulls on 2 different ships. I never notified the Casino Manager in advance other than when we all walked into the casino. IMHO this gives them less time to "possibly" set the machine to pay off less. Maybe you would miss out on a free drink but I would rather win lots of money. The Casino manger and her staff were excellant when they saw so many people who were going to participate.

Here is what I posted on Cruise Critic on the thread for our cruise:

THE SLOT PULL

HOW DOES IT WORK? - Everyone who wants to participate will bring their $15.00 to the meeting spot. You will each get five (5) pulls on a dollar slot machine that utilizes $3.00/pull. The winning money will accumulate in the machine and that will be divided among the participants at the end of all pulls. The payoffs will be in even dollars.

The extra money above the even dollars will be awarded to the player who gets the group the highest amount on their slot pulls. Each person’s winnings will be recorded at the time of their pulls so we know who will get the side pot of the money after the even dollar pay-out.

WHEN WILL WE DO THIS? - We will meet XXXXXXXXX @ XXX on the starboard side of the casino Fiesta Deck 6 just outside the Casino. We will all go into the Casio together and start our play.

Payoffs will be handled immediately afterwards and handed out to all who joined in the Slot Pull.

· If you wish to participate' date=' please give me your name and cabin # in case there is any [u']change[/u] at all in the schedule and I can notify you. We need more people to make this lots of fun, so please join in. This is what I need for those who want to participate:

o Your names – first names only for each person who is going to participate.

o Your cabin # in case there is any change in plans and I can call and leave a message in your cabin

If you do not want to post that information here, you can email me at XXXXXXXX

By having this information in advance, I can make up a chart at home to track names the amount each person wins on their pulls.

I also have an Excel spread sheet that you can print in advance to track how much each person won for the group. If you will give me your email address, I will forward that spread sheet.

These are always great fun.

Ann:

Thanks for all of your info. Please email me at trbarton743@aol.com.

Thank you very much!!!

Tom:)
