i LIKE the Great Outdoors on the SUN-aft nice place to go grab a bite to eat and then watch us leave the ports

and the OBSERVATION lounge

the Sports Bar on the SUN was NEAT (substitute for Blue Lagoon )

we had a big inside cabin

dont like the shower curtain in the bathroom-but tolerable...even for 2 weeks

the SUN is smaller we didnt have any "wait-time" for the MDRs on the SUN, but i didnt like the MDRs on the ship as much as others

theatre on the SUN is called a Lounge much smaller than other ships we have been on

the longest line on the ship...ICE CREAM right inside the buffet to the right.

CD last month was PEDRO SERA who was really GOOD and PERSONABLE

always called us by name when he saw us...we got to know the staff well being on 2 weeks

if you like ADULT-XTREME ENTERTAINMENT check out or participate in QUEST...but this game is ADULT ONLY and can be EXTREMELY RISQUE

but a RIOT...our favorite thing to participate in on NCL!!

There's a quiet deck, accessed by a set of stairs next to the kids pool on deck 12. Great spot to retreat to when the main pool deck is crazy and always deck chairs available.

I ditto the observation lounge, we loved hanging out there, especially for sail aways!

The kids pool hot tub is often empty, just don't give the kids dirty looks when they come to play in their pool ;)

I'm agreeing with a lot here...the Great Outdoors was our favourite restaurant. If you want more selection, grab your food from the Garden Cafe then take it outside. The seats by the stern have a fantastic view.

Some of the MDR will open their doors a few minutes early, that's how you can grab the great seats by the windows with a fantastic view.

Enjoy the Sun!

If you want to learn all about the Sun, or any other ship, start with the revies that are posted in the REVIEW section. There are also a ton of mini reviews that people post when they return, and then those people go about their real life and are not active here.

Since she's currently being dry-docked, a lot of answers we could give might not be pertinent when you cruise her.

I spent 33 wonderful days aboard this past Sept/Oct. I loved The Great Outdoors at the very back of the ship, gotten to through the buffet or the Sports Bar.

I enjoyed waffles and made to order omelets in Pacific Heights for breakfast.

Read your newsletter each night and check next day's entertainment and activities for your cruise.

Also, wait for the first reviews after the drydock to see what changes, if any, were made besides cosmetic ones.

Anyone know what the Bingo games cost on Sun?

Too darn much. NCL is great in a lot of ways but bingo is not one of them. Bingo on X the best, then Carny. NCL a distant last. Sorry I wasn't more specific. I remember prices were high and they only played a few games.

Would appreciate knowing what is in the area of Deck 12 on the Sun, port side forward, about the same distance forward as the Kids Pool is on the starboard side. It's basically shown as a big grey space on the NCL web site deck plan for pre-April 22, 2011, and a big white space post April 22,2011:

it has been several years since we cruised the Sun so my infor is a little outdated, but I can assure you, she is a great ship with nice cabins and a friendly crew plus I love the casino. As for restaurants, unless they have changed in the past few weeks they do not have Cagney's like the other NCL ships, but do have a steak house. Le Bistro, like on all NCL ships is outstanding and be sure to try the tapas in Las Rambles late every afternoon or early evening. You can make an entire meal out of them. We did the last time we sailed her. We had tapas and then very late, just before calling it a night we went to the sports bar for a late night sandwhich.

I only have one complaint about the ship, the buffet is set up very poorly and is small. Otherwise there is no negatives. Oh, the showroom is nice sized and the seats are comfortable.

Of course being in dry dock may change a lot of things.

agreed, I would never waste my money on NCLs bingo. I will waste the same amount of money in the casino on the slots. It lasts a little longer at least. If I remember right Bingo is $40 for 3 games.

I cruised a 7 day Alaska itinerary on X and we played every single session of bingo they offered that cruise. It was well-priced and fun, (they played a whole session - not 3 or 4 games)!

We played on the 3 night Carnival Cruise I took once. I recall it was fun and the guy right next to me won a free cruise in their top suite.

We played on Royal Caribbean when we took a short cruise. It was fine.

On my Jewel TA we played too much. It was expensive and a lot of hoopla and waiting for a few games. So when we went on our 14 day SA cruise we decided to avoid bingo and only go a few times. I think maybe we went twice or three times. I can say this, that if NCL's bingo was more affordable and more fun that we would definately have played a LOT more, and I think others would too. Too bad Kevin Sheehan didn't work in the NCL bingo games - haha! NCL would be the perfect place to throw in some extra prizes on top of money - such as spa and specialty dining certificates. They definately should revamp bingo on NCL, because if my mother who LOVES bingo stays away, that really says something.

That's actually just open deck space. I've got no idea why it's not marked in the same way as the other deck space.

You can see it clearly in this photo (linked to because I've deliberately chosen a fairly large image).

Below the mast, you can see a wooden door with a double window on either side. The right hand double window is that of the Chapel. The wooden door is directly outside the restrooms marked on the plan (although they are inaccurately drawn) and corresponds to the gap in the drawing of the outer wall.

So you can see the open deck space, and also the stairs that lead up to deck 13 (and then 14) that run along the outside of that outer wall.

Another view from a slightly different angle in this photo.

Thanks for the memory refresher. I did remember being able to walk in that area.

Just had a fabulous week on the SUN-1/1to 1/8. Best room steward ever, great food (One of the chefs told me that if you had a desire for a particular Indian dish, they would perepare it on a days notice) Wonderful service in MDR, marred only by one complainer: <<hot food too hot, cold food too cold, etc>>. Front desk staff courteous and efficient.

Go prepared for a wonderful time.

The most I paid on the Sky and Pearl was $20 for 3 sheets and 4 games (green, yellow, orange and blue sheets). I agree, although the casino does not give up much money, it's at least more entertaining except for the smoke. :(

Thank you so much for the photos in reply to my question; they are definitely worth the proverbial 1,000 words. Much appreciated! :)

During the day there were lounge chairs there to sit on. We just cruised her on the 1/1-1/8 Eastern Caribbean and she was our very first cruise. We loved it and the Sun. We have booked another and because we wanted a different itinerary chose a different ship but I would sail on her again in a heartbeat. Yes the buffet is wierd (they may have addressed that in drydock) but if you know what you want you don't have to wait in line (unless you want icecream or hot fruit crepes!). Just go to the section you want and grab your food. I loved the size of the Sun.
