The last time we looked the entrance fee was 10 Euros per person. As to the dress code, the casino will tell you they require "sensible" dress. What does this mean? Well, it does depend on the time of day but during the daytime it would certainly mean no shorts, tank tops, etc etc. Men should be in slacks and a nice shirt and ladies should avoid shorts or very ratty looking tops. Also keep in mind that when you visit during the day you are going to be limited to certain rooms and you will not see any high rollers who would be in different rooms....assuming there was anyone even in the place. The reality is that the real gamblers do not even go to the casino before 8pm so the daytime is just gawkers willing to pay a silly entrance fee for the right to lose more money.

When we were in Monoco as part of a large tour group (never again!) several of our group in casual summer wear were turned away from the doors... don't hold your breath that they are going to let you in. But if you really want to go in, make sure that you are dressed in "money casual," and shun the group - that should work;)

Thanks hank you covered the sugject well. We had been told you had to wear coat and tie any time to enter.

No, that is not a requirement during the daytime. At night they do require men to have a jacket. To be very blunt, the attitude of the casino reflects our attitude towards Monte Carlo. When we are on driving trips and happen to be in the area we avoid MC. When on a cruise ship that happens to dock (or tender) in MC we get out of town as quickly as possible. To our way of thinking there are many great places in the South of France and MC is not one of them (guess you could argue that its not in France :))! Of course there are many who will disagree but that is what makes the world go round. I suppose if we wanted to drop a million at a casino and spend a few thousand a night for a nice hotel we would have a different opinion.

The casino opens in the afternoon, at 2 p.m. I think. We went around then at my husband's request, as part of a private shore excursion. There is a fee to enter and there were very few other people in the casino in the afternoon. It felt more like being in a library than a casino. Going there was part of his wish list, but he would never had a need to return.

I would have preferred more time in Nice, but that's another thread.

Hank and others summarized things well. It's there. You can say you visited the casino. BUT, in most cases, it's a long, long ways from what people expect from their Las Vegas experiences and/or the cool movie looks as James Bond walked around in the casino. Cold and indifferent are key summary points. Lack of people takes away any and all of the "fun" you would expect. The outside of the building is the more interesting and exciting part. Most all cruise visitors will not be there in the evening, when the potential "action" might be happening. Most casinos in Europe are far, far different than the Vegas style.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

When we were there on a ship tour, some went in and some did not. I do remember our guide asking for passports for those who wanted to go in. I believe it had to do with winning $$$ and if you win over a certain amount they document it somehow. Everyone who went in said it was more or less dead inside and the decor was somewhat gloomy. They did not pay a fee as the guide had tickets or ????

We opted to walk around and window shop a bit (I did go in 1 or 2 stores) and then we sat down outside the Cafe de Paris for a coffee and crepe to people watch. We only had about 30 minutes to sit but it was nice after a long day (Nice, Eze, Monaco(the rock) and then Monte Carlo) and the people watching was top notch !!! Bentleys, Ferrari's, Mazaratti's and much more :D Not sure which was the best - watching the rich people or the tourists watching the rich people ;)
