dmwnc1959 Posted February 9, 2011 #26 Share Posted February 9, 2011 There is nothing greater than sea days except a port of call where you don't leave the ship. Both give you the option to sleep in late, enjoy a late breakfast, enjoy an unhurried morning, relax by the pool or promenade deck with you Kindle, Nook, hardback or paperback, or mp3 player and just chill out. I can't wait for my 9-nt B2B on the Celebrity MILLENNIUM doing the Western Caribbean and literally never feeling the need get off the ship in Grand Cayman, or Cozumel, or Key West. I might get off in Falmouth to stretch my legs as this would be the only place I haven't been and it will be less that a year old in it's inception. Well, maybe also stroll off the ship in Key West after lunch for a delicious 'Key Lime Pie on a Stick'. Mmmmmmm. Other than that the three sea days are most welcome as they are evenly distributed between ports I have little-to-zero interest in seeing. Just want to enjoy the ship for all nine days! dkjretired Posted February 9, 2011 #27 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I spend a lot of time checking for cracks in my eyelids. We also know what else you constantly check out....
gord13 Posted February 9, 2011 #28 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I use sea days for collecting data. I try to figure out why my eye lids have no cracks and also why my clothes have shrunk the day after a sea day. I think I need another cruise to accumulate more data. MEcruzr Posted February 9, 2011 #29 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I don't MIND sea days, as long as it's just one between port days, but I sure don't look forward to them. They are SO long. I get bored and end up spending way too much $ in the casino. I've done two TAs. I won't do another one!!! I about went NUTS on the crossing. brian_uk Posted February 9, 2011 #33 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Last year we were on an Oceania Cruise with 12 Ports in 14 days. Every day we were exhausted by the time we got back to the Ship. This year on Eclipse with 8 sea days out of 16. Brian
reklawr Posted February 9, 2011 #34 Share Posted February 9, 2011 We love sea days. Sea days are very relaxing on port intensive cruises. :) Our next cruise has 9 ports over 14 days. We have 2 sea days at the beginning, one in the middle of the cruise and two at the end of the cruise.
CleoV Posted February 9, 2011 #35 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I'll be odd man out. I know what you mean about not being wild about sea days. I only started cruising 6 years ago, and sea days were just pointless to me. Why would I want to be stuck on a ship when I could be off exploring someplace I've never been before? Having said that, now that I've been on dozens of cruises I do enjoy sea days. In part, I think it depends on the ship you're on and what you want out of any given cruise. We did a New England cruise on Crystal Symphony in October, and only had 2 sea days at the beginning of the cruise. I would have liked more time to just relax and enjoy our very comfortable cabin and the enrichment programs. We also did Allure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, and Disney's new Dream, all of which needed a lot of time just to explore the ship. So yes, I get where you're coming from, since I love to be somewhere new every day. But sea days can be pretty special, too.

bplazo Posted February 9, 2011 #37 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I do not care for sea days because I like to be off the ship and doing excursions. I like only one sea day at the end of the cruise just to relax and pack.
LouisianaMamma Posted February 9, 2011 #38 Share Posted February 9, 2011 We started cruising with Carnival and they called sea days "Fun Day at Sea." Even now when we have one of those rare, relaxed, sleep-in days at home we say we're having a "Fun Day at Sea." When we really get to have a "Fun Day at Sea," we're in heaven. We look forward to doing TAs when we retire.
islandgirlejfan Posted February 9, 2011 #39 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Sea days are my favorite....they are always very relaxing! We don't have to be in a hurry to get anywhere. We usually spend a lot of time on the balcony.
esther e Posted February 9, 2011 #40 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I guess we march to the beat of a different drum. We use the ship as our destination and rarely go ashore. So, we love port days -- we enjoy our private yacht.
Can'tstopcruising Posted February 9, 2011 #41 Share Posted February 9, 2011 We enjoy seadays when they are interspersed with port days. We relax, read, walk, do our e-mails, perhaps take advantage of the spa. We don't do trivia, bingo, casino and most of the other offerings. We used to do duplicate bridge. Now that it is a thing of the past, we would not enjoy a cruise with many consecutive seadays.
Irishwhiskey Posted February 9, 2011 #42 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Sea days allow you to try new a different things going on aboard ship. We've taken many repositioning cruises that had 5 or 6 days at sea and we found ourselves getting involved in the activities that were going on.We even got dressed up in the middle of the afternoon to go to tea. Many of the cruises that we book have a day in between the port days. Its a good way to cruise for us. phoenix_dream Posted February 9, 2011 #43 Share Posted February 9, 2011 I LOVE LOVE LOVE sea days, but with one exception. And that exception is when the seas are not cooperating. We have had a few sea days with seas in the 15-25 foot range. As one who suffers from mal de mer I found those hellish to say the least. Fortunately they have been few and far-between and normally sea days are the absolute best. You are virtually forced to relax, something DH and I have a very hard time doing when we are not at sea. Sleeping late, reading, lounging around the T-pool, getting a massage............ummmmmmm.....I just can't wait for my next sea day.
bikerunner Posted February 9, 2011 #44 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Absolutely love sea days especially at the beginning and end of the cruise. Gives you a chance to unwind and rest up before hitting all the ports or returning home. Sea days are actually some of my best times. I always end up taking a little longer cruises. The ones in the beginning let me unwind search out the ship and learn how to forget what day it is. The ones at the end give me time to pack up and savor the relaxation without having to run around on an island or something.
Gracie115 Posted February 9, 2011 #45 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Really love sea days...but would rather have them spread throughout the cruise than have two in a row...
agabbymama Posted February 9, 2011 #46 Share Posted February 9, 2011 Well OP, guess you and I are the exception to the rule. While most everyone else enjoys sea days, they are a waste of time to me. I use the cruise ship as a hotel and mode of transportation to get to as many different places as possible without flying and costing an arm and a leg. Cruises are the most affordable mode of transportation and you only have to unpack once. And at the end of the day of exploring foreign ports, you return to "home" with food you know you can eat and a bed you know is clean. I chose our New England/Canada cruise exactly because there were two or three port days and 1 sea day, then three more port days and 1 sea day. Unfortunately Celebrity changed the itinterary. We had a port day every day Northbound, and all 4 at sea days on the Southbound return. I want to tell you, I packed and repacked, read, played cards, shopped and took naps, until I was ready to climb the walls. By the time we reached Cape Liberty I was absolutely bonkers to get off that ship. I don't do trivia contests, bingo is too expensive to play more than once, lectures remind me of school, and the art auctions are ridiculous. So I can't give you any advice on what to do during "sea days", other than to try and keep them to a minimum when you chose your itinerary. Thank goodness there are lots of choices, that we can all be happy however we want to travel.

judla Posted February 9, 2011 #48 Share Posted February 9, 2011 We love sea days. Just to lie back on a lounge chair, read a book & RELAX. No phones, bills, TV, just relaxing. If the weather is bad then there is so much to do inside you don't even notice it. Since we have already been to most of the ports, it is nice to just stay on board & have less people to deal with. Just look at your on board planner and see what other activities they offer, you may just be surprised.;)

Rare TMaine Posted February 9, 2011 #50 Share Posted February 9, 2011 We like our sea days, especially the first day at sea. We usually find something to do, sleep in, go out on deck, play a game, eat, sleep some more. That being said, I am not sure about having six sea days in a row on a TA.
