HAL Veendam - How's the accessibililty?

Just booked HAL Veendam cabin CA331, which is listed as wheelchair accessible. It's a cabin that opens onto the lower promenade. We have not cruised on HAL before, and looking for any info (good or bad) about accessibility for someone who uses a power wheelchair and cannot stand at all.

Also interested in whether HAL has a (non)smoking policy and if it is upheld by the staff.

I'll be looking at the HAL boards for other info, but of course accessibility is the main issue for us.

We'll be on the Veendam May 2nd to Bermuda in cabin 331, so I'll also be interested in replies to your question.

When we booked, our TA confirmed with HAL that, as it appears in the deck plan, 331 is slightly bigger than wheelchair accessible cabin 333. HAL's website says that it will have a barrier free, roll-in shower with grab bars and a fold down seat, wider doors and be barrier free out to the deck. My husband can walk, but can't stand without pain and will be using a scooter.

I don't know when your cruise is, but I will post a review when we get back with details on the accessibility.

I have extensive experience on HAL, and on the Veendam and similar ships. I don't use an accessible cabin, but I have started using a scooter for my recent cruises.

I may be able to answer some more specific questions for you, if you could post what you are looking for in particular.

HAL is not a no smoking ship, but there is a smoking policy allowing it in limited areas---including the casino while actively gambling inside, and one side of the Lido aft area outside. Smoking is also allowed on balconies, but the Lower Promenade where lanai cabins are is not considered a balcony.

The OP asked this question Four years ago, and their last post on CC was a year ago. EM
