NJRonbo Posted February 18, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2011 Want to get away from bringing any formal wear on my next cruise. We do enjoy eating at the specialty Restaurant, Crown Grill. Of course we won't show up in shorts and tees, but I am wondering what the dress code is for the specialty restaurants. Can you show up in jeans and polo or dress shirt? Pam in CA Posted February 18, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2011 On formal nights, it's still smart casual but people dress a bit more "smartly." You can wear jeans but few do. I didn't see any when we went to the Sterling Steakhouse on the Sapphire last month on formal night. Most men are in chinos or slacks and a shirt, some suits; most women are in nice pants and tops. 1 HappyCruiser Posted February 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2011 On the Ruby DH was asked to change into a long sleeved shirt on a formal night..... I would have shown him a copy of the Princess's casual dress suggestions which specifically include Specialty restaurants as being casual all the time. I always dress in jeans & polo on all casual nights & have never had any problems on any of the ships. If they want to have a more formal dress code in the Specialty restaurants they should change their web site to say so and not change the rules at the door. IECalCruiser Posted February 18, 2011 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2011 Dress code for the specialty restaurants is "Smart Casual" every night, even on Formal Nights. Below is the definition of "Smart Casual" from the Princess website. Smart Casual Passenger attire should be in keeping with what they would wear to a nice restaurant at home. Skirts/dresses, slacks, and sweaters for ladies Pants and open-neck shirts for men Inappropriate dinner wear such as pool or beach attire, shorts, ball caps and casual jeans (with fraying and/or holes) are not permitted in the dining rooms. Shoes must be worn. I guess it depends what you wear to a nice restaurant at home.
