Cinderellie Posted April 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Hello. We've just booked the Conquest for an 8/29 sailing out of New Orleans. We are coming in the day prior, and then staying there the day after. My family of 4 -- us in our mid 40's -- and son (14) and daughter (10) have been to New Orleans 2 years ago and loved it. What would you suggest for a mid-range level hotel, that might have a pool? Also any that offers specials? Transportation to the pier? Thanks, oh wise ones! Nanatravel Posted April 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I suggest trying for the Hyatt (3* Business District) on Priceline. We got it for $50 per night for the last week of October. The airport shuttle was apx. $25pp round trip (transfer from the pier on the return date to the airport as they provide the Conquest's transportation). Once at the Hyatt they have a trolley that makes continuous runs and stops at the French Quarter and Harrah's Casino. We used it many times and it saved a lot of money. You are next to the Superdome and about 2 1/2 blocks from the St. Charles Street trolley if you wish to take that to the Garden District and Carmelia's Grille for a great cheap tour and breakfast or lunch (great burgers) don't miss this old restaurant! Taxi to the pier is less than $10 and the same for evening taxi's to FQ restaurants after dark. You could walk to the Quarter, but I don't really recommend it after dark. Check out biddingfortravel.com, betterbidding, and biddingforfun.com to see what hotel, districs and star ratings are coming up for winning bids. The water side hotels are a good idea too. FQ hotels may be quaint, but it could be noisey.
