who gets vip check in?

I'll say that there must be a lot of first time cruisers cause when we get to the port there are hundreds if not a thousand people waiting to board, but they always call our number or color first. Which is ok with me cause I can get fed and watered before all the germs hit the buffet.

To get back on topic, does that mean there is a Latitudes line and a separate VIP line for Suite Guests? I am sailing out of NYC and I only remember 2 lines but this time I will be both Latitudes and a Suite Guest and this really interests me.

Zero you being in a suite (I'm guessing a full suite with butler etc.) this is where you want to check in. In NY the agents closest to the security are the suite check ins. Walking in the room, right hand side, closest to the street. If they try to steer you elsewhere (has happened to us) don't let in. Also have your room # ready, they look on a list for it. After you do your credit card bit they will have someone escort you directly across the room to the VIP lounge. There the concierge will give you your room keys, probably a business card, a Freestyle Daily and have a butler or assistant walk you on the ship, right to your room. This is one of the best perks of staying in a suite.

I am in an AE Penthouse. We also have sailing with us someone in an Oceanview and we would prefer not to be separated as this is their first time cruising. Do you think if I explain this they will allow them to come with me? I really don't want them to be separated.

Balcony passengers are not VIPs (Unless they are VIPs for some other reason). In some ports there may be a separate check in line for balcony passengers, but it may be no shorter than any other line.

We had VIP service on the Spirit 2 years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't get to use it but Chris did for her 40th birthday. She and her parents said it was awesome. Maybe another time for me. But NCL and Karan was great! And our cabin stewards too!:)

The issue is that your key cards are at the suite check-in area and their's is in the "regular" area. In Miami we went through the regular check-in with our kids(adults) and then after getting their key cards we all went to the suite section so we could check-in. No one had a problem with that. We were all escourted to our suite at 12:30pm because their room wouldn't be ready until 2pm, dropped off our bags and then grabbed lunch.

We were guests of Harrah's on our first NCL cruise. We "forgot" that we were told we get "special" boarding.

Being so excited when we got to the pier, we just got in the main line and waited happily for our turn :) chatting with everyone around us.

This year, although we are now "latitude" ;) members, we would like to try to remember to use the casino guest check in as we are booked through Harrah's again.

Does anybody know where that line would be in New York?

Is it the same line as the suites?

We paid extra to be in an aft balcony, I just could not bring myself to pay the difference for a full suite (even though it was only a couple of hundred dollars each).

I will just keep telling myself that I like the walk in shower better than stepping into a tub  besides I am worried if I ever get upgraded to a full suite, I would never want to go back to a balcony again  and there is no way I can justify affording a higher category than an aft suite :D

Basically everyone is in the same line until they go through the x-ray machines. At that point there will be a latitude line, vip line, casino at sea line, and a regular line. CAS guests do have a seperate area to wait in, and are all escorted on the ship together about the same time as the other VIP's.

Margaret:

Usually we don't even have to wait on the security line in NY. When we identify ourselves as Platinum Latitudes members we get escorted to the front of the security line. You should be able to get that courtesy too.

There also is usually a separate Gold/Platinum Latitudes check in line (as opposed to the lower level Latitudes line) near the casino guest line. The exact set up seems to change fairly often.

I've been learning new things all day around here....:D

We are typically the first people at the pier for every cruise, so we are always first or second in line and never noticed anyone else being escorted infront of us. :):):)

The setup inside NYC Pier (88) has possibly changed ? somehow - as we arrived on 2/13 for our Jewel sailing:

Line to the left for regular (non-status) passenger and to the right, Latitude members. No signage for VIP/Suite/Casino guests, but one can probably self-identify to a uniformed NCL rep. stationed near the entry point for being escorted.

The security line & x-ray luggage scanner is AFTER the completion of the check in progress - photo taken, credit card/cash deposit taken care of & Key Card issued. Despite the long lines for checking in, there was virtually no lines or wait for going thru security, maybe 60 seconds or so at most, just waiting for the person in front of you to be cleared - shoes stayed on, belts off along with everything else tiny in a tray, etc.

Then, you are on your way up to the gangway & actual boarding. :D

The two times I have sailed out of Miami (Jewel and Epic), there wasn't any suite "line." We arrived at the pier about 11:30, entered a small sitting room, were promptly given our sail cards and were escorted onto the ship. We arrived at Cagney's/Epic Club about ten minutes to 12:00, giving us just a few minutes before they opened for lunch.

That's completely new. The security checkpoint was always before you entered the check in area.

True that. We just did both CTNs last week (Gem and Jewel) and the security was the first line... then check in. There is a sign for VIP Lounge, but you have to look for it, it's to the left after you get through security.

Approximately what time do you get to the pier? Last year we got there 2 hours after I wanted to because I can always think of one more thing I need to do before I leave :o

DH thinks we need to get there around 2 pm. Which is a good thing so he does not get mad at me. He likes to be places at least 30 minutes earlier than he is supposed to in case of traffic, etc. The farther we travel the more time he leaves to get there.

I think we got to the pier around 12:30. I must say that there were no lines at security, or at least that I noticed, so that must have meant there were no more than 1 or 2 people in front of us and they moved us through rather swiftly, but that was before the airlines started doing full body scans. Has security been changed at the pier?

At that point, without thinking, we got on the main boarding line, and it did take us at least an hour or longer to get our cabin keys, give our credit card, etc. before we were told which direction to walk until we found our way onto the ship. No one came to escort us.

We arrive about 8am.......and love chatting with all the workers at the pier. We would rather be at the terminal/pier building waiting for the ship than sitting in the hotel room waiting to leave for the pier.

The only thing you have to do is be on the ship 2 hours before sailing.
