Information about Nynäshamn

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Here is some information about Nynäshamn for you who are going to visit our town during the summer of 2011. I will post information in several categories.

This is the first:

Information about where you will arrive:

You will arrive at a dock near Skytten Hälls Väg/Mysingsv. (I have marked it on the enclosed map).

Here is a link to a map , I have marked where you will dock and how to walk to the train station (the site is in Swedish):

http://kartor.eniro.se/m/I3KUx

Click on the blue dots for more information in English (the web page is in Swedish).

Remember that you can zoom in and out at the bottom of the page (so you don´t miss any blue dots with information).

The second part of information:

There will be a cottage open with staff from the tourist information office and they can provide tourist information and maps on how to walk to the train station. It will take about 10-20 minutes to walk to the train station.

Here is a link to a map , I have marked where you will dock and how to walk to the train station (the site is in Swedish):

Click on the blue dots for more information in English (the web page is in Swedish).

Remember that you can zoom in and out at the bottom of the page (so you don´t miss any blue dots with information).

During the morning and afternoon there will be a shuttle bus (also functioning as a hop-on hop-off bus) provided by us. The tickets for this bus can be bought by the bus or at the cottage.

Ticket price: shuttle-bus tickets (valid back and forth to the train station and the cruise ship pier):

Adult SEK 30 (approx. CAD$ 5), children 6-16 years old SEK 15 (approx. CAD$ 3).

Hop-on hop-off bus with a guide:

Adult SEK 100 (approx. CAD$ 16), children 6-13 years old SEK 50 (approx. CAD$ 8).

Information about our hop-on hop-off bus/shuttle bus will be presented here and at our website

Part three - how to take the train to Stockholm from Nynäshamn´s station:

The train from Nynäshamn station to Stockholm will take about 1 h and 6 minutes. I don´t have the timetable for the summer yet but usually there is a train every half hour (5 minutes past every whole hour and 35 minutes past every whole hour). During weekends there is normally no changing of trains.

I will post more information as soon as I get the new timetable.

Before you enter the train you need to buy a ticket.

Information about tickets:

There is no currency exchange place near the train station. A kiosk (Nynäshamnskiosken,

right next to the train station will be open and you can either buy your tickets

there with different currencies or a credit card or buy them in a ticket machine (only credit cards).

You can buy 1-day/24 hour travel cards at the kiosk or from the ticket machine.

Another option is to buy the Stockholm Card from the the tourist information office next to the pier.

The Stockholm Card offer free entrance on public transport in the whole Stockholm county (Nynäshamn and Stockholm City), museums and discounts on guided bus tours etc. For more information about the Stockholm Card, please visit

http://beta.stockholmtown.com/en/Information/Buy--Order/The-Stockholm-card/

for more information.

Ticket price:

1-day/24 hour travel card full price: SEK 100

1-day/24 hour travel card reduced price: SEK 60

If you don't have an SL Access smart card already, there will be an extra 20 SEK fee for the card itself. You can re-use an SL Access card that you have obtained at a previous visit.

Tickets are available in full price, for adults, and reduced price, for children and young people under 20 years of age as well as for those over the age of 65.

An unlimited number of children under the age of 7 always travel free when accompanied by a passenger with a valid SL ticket. From 12 noon on Friday and all weekend, up to six children under the age of 12 may travel for free when accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket.

We will inform SL (the commuter train company) that there will be lots of passengers from a cruise ship aboard. They will probably give you information in English on the train since they are used to "situations" like these.

The trains can have problems as any public transport system can so be

in time. Read more about SLs travel guarantee at:

http://www.sl.se/templates/Page.aspx?id=4664

Thank you for providing this information to those of us who will be arriving in Nynashamn on the Norwegian Sun this summer. Please keep providing updated information as it becomes available.

Also I believe that the Sun actually tenders instead of docking - is that correct?

Link to comment

It is true that the ships won´t dock at the port. You will have to use tender boats. The reason to why the ships can´t dock is that all ports are occupied by ferries traveling to the Swedish island Gotland (that is one of the most popular vacation spots in Sweden during the summer), Gdynia in Poland and Ventspils in Latvia.

I guess most of you haven´t been here before but this year the docking place will move closer to the road. Previous years the docking place along with the information/souvenir cottage was located near the cargo area.

About tendering: I noticed that sometimes the captain of the ship takes the ship closer to the docking area to make thing go smoothly. This is especially the case when the ship is soon going to leave Nynäshamn.

Nynäshamns Ångbryggeri

Nynäshamn´s Ångbryggeri (Steam Brewery) started making beer 1997 but the idea came as early as 1988 when the means club "Hagges Bärsklubb" was founded. Since then the brewery has been growing and won several national competitions. Among the prizes you will find that the brewery won first prize at Stockholm Beer Festival 2002. Today you can find the products from the brewery at several restaurants, pubs and at Systembolaget.

Participate in a guided tour at the brewery (must be booked in advance) and receive information about beer, brewing and the history of Nynäshamn´s Ångbryggeri. Taste the beer together with assorted bread, cheese and sausage. The visit takes about 2 hours

Note: Systembolaget, the Swedish Alcohol Retail Monopoly, exists for one reason: To minimize alcohol-related problems by selling alcohol in a responsible way, without profit motive. This is the only place where you can buy alcohol with more than 3,5 per mille. Systembolaget in Nynäshamn usually have the whole assortment from Nynäshamn´s steam brewerery. Remember that you have to be 20 years old or over to buy alcohol.

For more information about Systembolaget read here: http://www.systembolaget.se/English/

Can I bring alcohol aboard the ship?

This is what I found at Cruise Critic regarding Norwegian Cruise Line:

Bringing wine or Champagne onboard: Allowed, but you'll have to pay a corkage fee for wine that is brought onboard and served or consumed in any restaurant, public room/area or cabin. Fees are $15 for 750ml bottles, $20 for 1,000ml and $30 for 1,500ml. Boxed wine is not allowed.

Purchasing liquor in port: Retained until the end of the cruise

This is what I found at Cruise Critic regarding Holland America Line:

Bringing wine or Champagne onboard: Allowed, with a corkage fee of $15.

Purchasing liquor in port: Retained until the last day of the cruise.

Jane´s Kryddbod

Welcome into the season atmosphere!

During the twelve years that the season shop has existed there has been a steady growth of seasonings from Nynäshamn. Here you can find all sorts of seasonings like Nynäs fish seasoning, Nynäs Thai seasoning, Nynäs sausage seasoning, Nynäs herring seasoning and Bedarömix. But you can also find jelly, glögg (mulled wine) mustard and off course Jane´s delicious archipelago jam.

Hello again!

I have been quite busy preparing everything for the arrival of the cruise ships so I haven´t been able to be online that much. Anyway, I wanted to enclose a pdf file with information about our shuttle bus which also works as a hop-on hop-off bus here in Nynäshamn. But the file was to heavy so I will have to figure out how to make it smaller. The shuttle bus will take you to the train station/bus station from the cruise ship pier. It departs every 15 minutes from 8 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 5.30 pm. If you buy a ticket (USD$6 per adult) you can use that in the morning and during the afternoon.

The hop-on hop-off bus will go around Nynäshamn for about 50 minutes. You can hop off wherever you like and we will come back in an hour to get you back. The price for this ticket is USD$18. There will be an English speaking guide aboard and you can ask her about anything to might wonder about.

For more information, please contact us by email or phone: info@nynashamn.se

+46(0)8520 73700

Sometimes, not always, there will be a hop-on hop-off bus from Strömma Kanalbolaget AB that takes you directly to Stockholm. The price for a ticket is 30 euro. It will depart when the bus is full or at the latest about 10 am.
