manmtnmike Posted March 4, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2011 As a newbie to RCCL, what age group should I expect on a 12 day southern Caribbean cruise out of Baltimore? I'm sure probably less kids.....but will there be anyone awake after 9:00 pm?;) What's your experience with clubs and lounges on this 12 day? Thanks! griffy116 Posted March 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2011 The only experience I have with this is an 11-night cruise to Hawaii. The age of the average passenger was certainly older, and we cruised in April, which is a Spring Break period here. My daughters still refer to that cruise as the "blue-hair cruise." I think if you go on a cruise while school is in session, you'll always find less kids and young people on board. If you go on a longer cruise, the age also goes up. Even though you will be going to the caribbean, you should expect an older crowd. As for the closing up at 9 pm, I didn't go to any of the lounges late at night. I went to the casino and while it was open, it was pretty deserted by midnight.
cruisegirl1 Posted March 4, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2011 Generally , the longer the cruise, the older the crowd. You will likely see few families with school age children unless your sailing is over the summer. We had a longer cruise two years ago and found that there was an abundance of pool chairs during the day and the casino cleared out after 10pm. We did try to use the game room during the day and every table was taken! M
PSCruiser Posted March 4, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2011 Did this cruise in early December. Since neither my cruise, or Feb 27th are into school vacation or most spring breaks, I would expect them to be about the same. First of all, there will be almost no kids, except the ones pulled out of school, so I'd guess 20-40 total. Average age will be in the 60-70 range. However, if you are in the say, 30-40 range, there will be enough in that range to interact. As always in these long cruises, the late disco lounge in the Viking Crown will be dead, the shows will be packed. Its possible to have a great time on any cruise, just adapt! Mike My husband and I just returned from the January 29th sailing on the Enchantment. There were a lot of older people ( over 65) on the ship. My husband is a young 60 and I am 55 and we love to dance and have fun, which we did on this cruise. We were in the Viking Crown every night and there were plenty of people in there having a great time...ages 20 something all the way up. It was packed on 70's night. Usually on port days, not too many people go up to party because they are either too tired from the excursions, or they have to get up early for one the next day, regardless, we had a blast anyway! A cruise is what you make of it, no matter what kind of people are on there. I can say I have never had a bad time on any cruise....
marci22 Posted March 4, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 4, 2011 5 X number of cruise nights = average age onboard.

Marci....Where did you come up with that formula?;) "5 X number of cruise nights = average age onboard." Mike
mszpolaris Posted March 4, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2011 5 X number of cruise nights = average age onboard. you also need an "X" variable for the time of year  (too much math? :P )
toad2 Posted March 4, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2011 My friend, my cousin, and I are 40's to early 50's and hoping to enjoy some late night dancing and gambling on our March 21st 12 night Enchanment cruise. The rest of our group are 70 to 80 as will probably be the average age on the cruise. We will have fun regardless but hopefully everything won't close up by midnight. On the last Celebrity cruise we went on everything was dead by midnight.
Akitkat118 Posted March 4, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 4, 2011 we just did a 10 day from FL (my husband and I are 31) and we definitely were some of the younger people. Not many kids, definitely under 75 kids or so, and most people in the 40's and up, and retired. None the less, a few younger people for us to interact with later on in the night and so forth. kevinandrenay Posted March 5, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 5, 2011 We were on Enchantment 2-7-2011 and it was definitely an older crowd. We are in our early 40's and were among the youngest on the ship. Lots of wheel chairs. It happens on longer cruises during the winter. Even at night the casino was not very crowded. Even with the older crowd we still met a lot of people and made many new friends.
Annieeee Posted March 5, 2011 #12 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Average age: I would say ancient. Disposition: mean, so mean even God is not ready for them, that is if they are even headed upwards. dixieva Posted March 5, 2011 #13 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Wow that's a little harsh! What did an old person do to you anyway to p-ss you off? Or maybe you're kidding---
Annieeee Posted March 5, 2011 #14 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Yes I was kidding,,,, Sorry, my ancient ,old mind forgot to add the smiley. Actually that was what some guy yelled at some old folks that were in an elevator and these old folks would not budge to let him in. There was room, but they were not budging and as the glass doors closed they flipped the bird at younger man that was left behind. I laughed and laughed. dixieva Posted March 5, 2011 #15 Share Posted March 5, 2011 Oh thank god you were kidding! I feel much better now. I do know some older guests can be a little- well shall we say abrasive:rolleyes:? But most that I have encountered were very nice.
retiredgram Posted March 5, 2011 #16 Share Posted March 5, 2011 I believe you will have a wonderful time. A cruise is what you make of it. We did an 11 night on the Granduer when she was in Baltimore. There was a mixed age group, but it leaned towards retirees. Most people that work have to schedule 2 weeks to accomadate a longer cruise. Also most parents are not taking children out of school for that period of time. We, (hubby age 70 & I age 67) will be cruising the 12 night on Feb. 6, 2012, and are looking forward to greeting everyone, of all age groups, onboard with a smile :D

hpreece Posted March 7, 2011 #19 Share Posted March 7, 2011 My husband and I are in our early 30s (I'm 30 :D) and I think there was a pleasant age mixture. Just as many younger crowd as older crowd. Younger people do a lot of complaining about being bored, surrounded by older people, etc etc. But they should explore and stop complaining. The Viking lounge was our favorite hangout and we never seen any of the complainers there. Instead they must've been in their cabin complaining about how bored they were. -Heather
Derckert82 Posted March 9, 2011 #20 Share Posted March 9, 2011 My wife and I are looking through all the cruise lines to try and get an idea of what might work best for a stretched-thin budget. The Feb 27 cruise date happens to be one of our considered choices. We have six kids from Pre-K to college freshman and everything in between. We were wondering something along the lines of how many kids and under 30 to expect.

The older 3 have jobs and/or in college, so they aren't going and the 2 babies are also staying home. We have a family vacation planned for this summer with everyone.
