Venice Airport to Ship

Can anyone tell me what the alternatives are for getting from the Venice airport to the docks. We are on the Splendour of the Seas on May 2.

Taxi rates? Shuttles?

Thanks

Jack

Basically the following uptions are best:

Option 1 - Vaporetto from airport stop (10 minutes walk from terminal) to Piazzale Roma (expensive bur fast).

Option 2 - Land Taxi from airport to Piazzale Roma (may be cheaper if there are several if you).

Option 3 - Land bus (no.5) to Piazzale Roma (often the cheapest option but slow).

Option 4 - Cruiseline shuttle transfer. Least hassle as direct to the boat and maybe cheapest.

Option 5 - Water taxi from rear of airport (very expensive but fastest option)

Once at Piazzale Roma the people mover (1 euro pp) and a 15 minute walk will get you to the boat.

The public bus is a silly savings, in my opinion. There is a special airport bus that goes non-stop from the airport to Piazzale Roma and back for only 3 Euro, and is made to carry luggage. The public bus is not.

we had a great trip on the Splendour last May. We used the ATVO airport express bus (3E); so easy and convenient ! It leaves from just outside the front door of the airport and takes 15-20 minutes. You'll need euros so be sure to have some. There's a BLUE box along the curb where you buy the tickets. There was an employee to assist.

The bus dropped us off at Piazzale Roma near Signpost D2. We happened to see people standing by the curb with RCI bag tags and found out they were waiting for the free RCI shuttle to the pier! There had been no info about this shuttle in the RCI material so it was a nice surprise. I don't know if the shuttle is still running now that the People Mover ( 1 E) is operational between Piazzale Roma and the pier.

We did the ATVO express to P Roma as well last year, and took the peoplemover but I'll warn you, the port was NOT properly signed. We had a heck of a time finding where to go for our cruise line. Sure, you see the ship...but they didn't tell us that we had to go to 1 building to dump our luggage (which was back towards the entrance of the port) and then go to the other to sign in (which we had walked to in the beginning with all our crap, then were told to walk all the way back with our crap, then walk back again with our carryon to the other place).

So, my word of warning is, try to get as much information as you can about where you need to go within the port specifically.

The bus/peoplemover option was a large savings over the rest, overall.

Too many options..many of which would be a royal pain. Regarding the public bus from the airport, they do not allow you to board with more then simple carry-on luggage and have no room for large luggage storage. Hence anyone with real luggage wanting to use a bus must use the ATVO bus. But all of this is just silly if you want to get to the port. Just take a land taxi from the airport direct to the port (the taxi takes you right to the port terminal building). Going via the Piazale Roma is just a pain if you have luggage and doesn't make a lot of sense when you consider that a land taxi (also known as a car) gets you directly to where you want to go without having to drag your luggage onto people movers, boats, etc. Of course a cruise line transfer from the airport also does a good job unless you get unlucky and have to wait on a bus for an hour until they have enough folks to depart from the airport.
