MTJSR Posted March 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2011 The ship was in the channel not yet at berth at 7 (something) this morning, typically they are berthed by 6:30am maybe that helped get the schedule off
Rare Coral Posted March 19, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Noon isn't that delayed. We were on the Sapphire for 2 weeks in December and both times, they boarded right before noon.

Pam in CA Posted March 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Noon boarding isn't a delayed time at all. I've taken cruises out of San Pedro several times when boarding didn't start until Noon. Arrival might have been delayed a bit because there was a storm that came through during the night.

Rare 4cats4me Posted March 19, 2011 Author #8 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Nothing to make an issue over. No worries but this is our ninth time Sailing out of here and first group Has always been called at 11:15 To 11:30 The lines were way longer today Than we'd ever encountered Inside the terminal and outside Not an issue. Just thought I'd Ask the knowledgable Ones at cc Ship is great!
jrobinso Posted March 19, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Just off Sapphire. Yes, there was a delay. High winds and moderate seas delayed our arrival by 1 1/2 hours. We had a bit of a delay disembarking but all seemed to go smoothly after 9 or so.

Do you stay at anchor all night, or does the ship go out to sea and come back in the morning? I know the last tender leaves at 11:00 PM, does everyone have to be on board? I have seen where some people are talking about staying all night on Cabo. Can they do that?
OnlineMom Posted March 20, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 20, 2011 Last June, we weren't able to board the Sapphire in Seattle until 2 minutes before the muster drill because of a noro outbreak the week before! Yuck! Not a fun way to start a vacation - had a great week, though... Enjoy your cruise!

As was reported above, we were late getting to San Pedro due to "strong headwinds." When we were in Cabo the first night, the last tender from ship to shore was at 10:30 pm, and the last tender from shore to ship was at 11:00 pm. Passengers who were spending the night in Cabo were asked to advise the Passenger Services Desk before leaving the ship. The ship stayed at anchor all night. Actually, after the Carnival Splendor and Statendam left in the late afternoon, the Captain moved the ship closer in to make the tendering easier. They said that they went out to sea at night so they could open the casinos and then back in first thing in the morning. Not sure if that is the practice for all cruise lines or not. Thanks for the information. I noticed on the Cabo cam that those ships had left port fairly early, but the Princess ship is out of camera range, so I couldn't tell if they were still in port. After dark, it is hard to see anything on those cameras.
junglejane Posted March 20, 2011 #16 Share Posted March 20, 2011 The casino on the Sapphire was not open while we were overnighting in Cabo. In fact, at the comedy show that night (Steve Moris), they made an announcement that contrary to what was in the Patters, that the casino and stores would not be open. Of course, they might do things differently on the next cruise.

That's OK, I can save my money for Cabo nightlife! :D Steve Morris....? How long is he going be onboard? He was the resident comedian when I was on Sapphire in December! He was OK, but if he's on all week, I sure hope he changes up his show.
jrobinso Posted March 21, 2011 #18 Share Posted March 21, 2011 We had the ultimate balcony dinner on the evening we were in Cabo. A perfect evening to sit out on you balcony and look at the city lights and the boats in the harbor. Loved Steve Morris. I got the impression that this was his last cruise and he opens in Las Vegas in May.
Pam in CA Posted March 21, 2011 #19 Share Posted March 21, 2011 Thank goodness the Sapphire left yesterday. Today, we've had severe weather with torrential rain and high winds. If they were only about 50 miles south of San Pedro, which they would have been at 7:30pm last night, they'd be caught in a major storm. We were just issued an emergency alert by the Emergency Broadcast System to not be outside or even driving.

DanJ Posted March 21, 2011 #22 Share Posted March 21, 2011 I'd like to know this too! John Heald posted on his blog last week or the week before that Carnival's policy for overnighting in Cabo was you can, they would like you to notify them of your plans, and to let you know that if the ship can't tender the second day, you are on your own to return to California, and would have to pay some Mexican immigration fee. Now this was for Carnival, so I'm not sure if Princess does the same thing, but a follow on post suggests Princess was allowing people to stay off for the night if they wanted. Don't think I would chance it though.
cherylandtk Posted March 21, 2011 #23 Share Posted March 21, 2011 Princess allowed overnighters, and judging from the number of empty tables that night in the dining room, quite a few folks took advantage of it. Princess, however, was the only ship to stay at anchor in the harbor as others have noted. There were no general warnings about being unable to tender the next day, I do not know if they made such warnings if you notified them of your intention to stay overnight. I surely hope they did, because Cabo has been well known to have days where the tenders can't run. Even if the ship is at anchor there all night doesn't mean the weather can't change by the next day. I think if they don't make it clear that people stay ashore at their own risk that they open themselves up to responsibility for these people if they can't make it back to the ship the next day. cherylandtk Posted March 21, 2011 #25 Share Posted March 21, 2011 Like I said, I don't know if they said anything to the pax who notified the ship they were staying overnight. It was not something said in the Patters or Shore/Port Guide.
