SewCruise Posted April 10, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2011 Hi all, First cruise coming up in June, 12 nt. Mediterranean, and I'm super excited! One of the things I'm really looking forward to is sampling the local food when we're in the different ports. I understand the rules about not bringing alcohol and cases of soda/water onboard, and I plan to adhere to them, but I'm wondering about bringing back other "souvenir" type foods. I'm sure we'll enjoy quick, local lunches in each port but I would probably be interested in bringing snack items back on the ship with me. Are passengers allowed to bring on small amounts of food from port? For instance, a piece of fresh fruit, a little tub of olives, or a couple of pastries? Creeks Posted April 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2011 I brought a wonderful small bread back on-board and brought it to dinner - all enjoyed it. Our waiter was amused.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2011 we have brought food back onto the ship -- especially when we did a new england cruise -- some wonderful lobster sandwiches so you won't have a problem if your cabin doesn't have a refrigerator -- just be careful what types of food you bring back if you are not going to eat it right away
Arwenmark Posted April 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2011 Depending on what it is you should not have a problem bringing it onboard but DO NOT bring any food [that is not commercially sealed such as potatochips unopened] off the ship, there can be serious consequences if you do. operafan Posted April 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2011 We do it all the time; Especially in France and Italy. :D

paul929207 Posted April 12, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2011 Bringing food on is no problem. If it is not sealed, you must either consume it on the ship or discard it. Things like fresh fruit and vegatables may not be carried off the ship.
SadieN Posted April 15, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2011 The only port I've been to that prohibits food being brought back onboard was Astoria, Oregon. Probably because California, Washington and BC do not want imported pests.
Rare Keith1010 Posted April 15, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2011 The cruise line will let you know if there are any items at any ports that they ask guest not to bring back. Otherwise, bring back whatever you would like to eat. Keith
