Lots of sea days. What to do?

Booked on Celebrity Solstice 2012 Barcelona to Sydney 44 nights. There are lots of sea days. Could anyone give a brief outline of what we could expect to fill the days?

Will they show movies in public areas? (I don't like watching them in the cabin).

Do they have enrichment lectures that tell about the places you are visiting?

Is there a well stocked library?

Thanks,

Sandra

Yes, there will be a library. Don't know how well because I don't sail Solstice until May 1. Yes, there will be enrichment lecturers. My problem with sea days is there are usually so many interesting things going on that I have trouble fitting in my nap! EM

Don't count on the library to keep you stocked with reading material. That is one of the few places where Celebrity is disappointing. The selection of books has been very limited on every Celebrity ship I have been on, including Solstice. I have learned to take my eReader to cut out the weight of books in my luggage.

Celebrity has an interesting programme of enrichment lectures on cruises with a lot of sea days, and usually plenty of fun activities if they are to your taste. I'm sure you will have more than enough choices to fill the time available.

there is usually plenty to do on sea days. We really enjoyed the Hot Glass Show, playing boccee or croquet on the lawn-surprised how much we liked this!

There are enrichment speakers, cooking classes, wine appreciation classes, games and cards. Library looked well stocked, but I brought my own library on my e-reader! I would get an e-reader or pack a selection of books to keep you busy! Amazon has a Kindle right now for only $114!! For what luggage fees are you can't pack many books or you will be overweight- it could pay for itself!

Don't worry there is plenty to do on sea days- our favorite days on a cruise!

Thanks everyone. Even the nap sounds good. Walking laps will be a must after all the great meals. A Kindle is worth me investigating but I'm not sure about re-charging it with a different power supply here in Australia.

Antything else I should know about the Solstice? I take it S-Class means BIG!

Take a nap

Play the trivia game

Read a book (e-readers are great so you don't have to bring a million pounds worth)

Find the game room and play cards or a board game.

Watch a movie

Attend a lecture

Visit the Spa and pamper yourself

Try your luck in the casino (learn a new game perhaps)

Journal your daily events to keep track of your vacation

Take a class if offered (cooking, photography, etc)

Go on a ship scavenger hunt with other passengers! Form a team and see who can complete the most tasks in a given time.

I envy your itinerary. Our longest was 29 days, and we absolutely loved. Get a Kindle or Nook and download all your favorite books, before you sail. Then you'll know you'll have plenty of read. We travelled with friends, so there always something fun for us to do. Plus, the casino is open on sea days!

You just get yourself into a mind-set that you're travelling the world, and enjoying every minute of it.

Have a wonderful cruise!

I just am off the Eclipse. Yes, it is a larger ship but very easy to navigate.

We found plenty to do on sea days, in fact, there were several activities that were scheduled at the same time and we had to decide which one we wanted to do the most!

The Corning Glass Show is not to be missed and it is approximately two hours in length.

I think everyone mentioned many of the other things, relaxing is just so easy on Celebrity ships, not many announcements, just the captain's update everyday at noon.

Enjoy!

Pool walking, if done properly, is 2 to 1 versus land walking. I usually walk 1 1/2 hours in the Solarium which equates to 3 hours land walking. Then with my other ancillary exercises usually perfomed on the balcony, and additional walking on board, I usually exercise about 4 hours per day. When you include breakfast and dinner in Blu, the morning breakfast in Michael's Club, attendance at the daily happy hour, and maybe a little nap, you are ready for the evening entertainment. You will not be bored.

I think you'll be terribly bored. In fact, why don't you let me take your spot for you so that you don't have to endure it? :D

I love sea days and 44 nights sounds awesome!

No way Susie V! Although there are 6 sea days in a row.

jackdiamond Do you mean walking in the pool, as in water aerobics? I do water aerobics every week. Is there a charge for the Solarium.

Thanks,

Sandra

PS Thanks for all the Kindle advice. Will anyone be reading hard copy books in 10 years time?

I just returned from a 7 day cruise on the Solstice we only had 3 sea days but there was tons to do!! Seriously, you could be busy all day if you like.

You will get an itinerary delivered nightly to your room with all the activities planned for the next day. You will NOT be bored! I wish I had saved my itineraries because I can't even remember everything. I know someone posted their itineraries a while back, I'll see if I can find that thread for you.

The solarium is free, it's an 18+ area with a pool, spas and a small cafe. I didn't hang out there much because it's enclosed and was pretty warm in there.

Yes, there was a "cirque-like" show, it was good!

I wasn't able to find the Solstice daily itineraries however I found this thread with Eclipse schedules.

If they offer a "ship tour" I would recommend doing that, just to get a feel for the ship. I wish I would've done a ship tour or walked all around the ship the first day!!

I agree with what everyone has said, always things going on and at sometimes you have to choose one against the other. Even on a port day there was something on the schedule that I shook my head at and went .... "WHY TODAY!". Some things take on a life of their own and get a bit out of hand as the 50's Music Trivia in the Grand Foyer. I am laughing as I think about it and only wish I took pictures, what a riot as in a fun time!

I disagree on library .... if you are looking for new books off the NY Times top 10 ... NO ... you wont find any there but I did see many good titles.

I found watching families playing games on the lawn very relaxing and good for a laugh also.
