Kusadasi on August 15- Assumption of Mary

Recommended Posts

Hi...we are on Celebrity Equinox and have 1 day in Kusadasi- August 15--just realized that is The Assumption of Mary and on the cruise line's shore excursion website it said to expect long delays at the House of the Virgin Mary that day..has anyone ever been there on that day?...would it not be worth it to try and go there that day if there are other things we want to see...we also don't get into port until 10 am so the chance of getting there before the crowds seems unlikely...any advise would be appreciated

I am sure the local Catholic population would be visiting the shrine on this feast day. I think the Orthodox churches have a different calendar, but this day might be a feast day they have in common. I would plan accordingly.

Have visited this House of Mary and was very impressed by its setting and place that was hers. Very interesting and moving! Below is a picture. Hard to know how the crowds will run. Much depends on how many ships will be port that day.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Near Ephesus, here is what the final home of Mary looks like from our visit there:

We were in Ephesus one Feb, with NCL who were running special trips for Catholic crew members to the house. The crew we met were so excited...:). Perhaps some other ships might do the same on festivals?
