Barbados Weather

My son is looking at having his honeymoon in Barbados in August (Land-Based) and I'd like some advice on what weather to expect. I usually cruise in Feb/Mar and have never visited in August, can anyone offer any advice, maybe some of the Barbados residents on this forum could respond.

It's really HOT! :) But then again, that's how I like the weather to be when in the Caribbean.

 

We went last August and had clear skies and strong sun from about 9 AM until about 3 pm. The clouds rolled in quickly and there was a heavy shower for about 30 minutes. Other than that it was beautiful. A typical tropical day. Photos of our time in Barbados are in my review of the Serenade below.

That above is reasonably accurate!

 

Consolation is that in Sept. and October, it gets rather still

(little or no breeze from the usual direction)

and muggy-er and sticky-er than August.

 

With Sept. 10th. being the statistical peak of Hurricane Season

this sort of weather is about right for that time of year

and we don't wear very much, around that time -and neither will you!

 

 

To be honest April and May 2011 has so far felt a lot like this

and lead one to think that predictions for an active Hurricane Season this year

are on the money!

Our nicest time of year on the island is definitely

November, December, January and February

with Dec. and Jan. in bold for good reason! ;)

 

 

I live for this late time of year: the rest of it is all yours,

and I stay in the air-con whenever and wherever possible!

All I can say is for the first few days myself and my husband found it difficult to walk more than 10 mins because of the heat and humidity, and we are relatively young (late 20s) fit people. It just seemed such a heavy oppressive heat and I do like it hot. At night everyone around us was sweating profusely because it did not get any cooler. Whilst I loved Barbados I would prob return around December to March time when it is likely to be more comfortable temperatures.

Aahh! You're now coming to appreciate what I always say

about catching a taxi rather than walking it, etc.

 

It's the combination of the heat and the fairly oppressive humidity

that gets to you, and reduces what little work ethic we had/have :D

 

As a year-round island resident, I absolutely "live for" Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb

-particularly those months in bold

 

..the rest of the year, you can have it --you'll find me in any air-conditioned place ;)

which is one of the cooler spots, girl!

Yes, hot and humid in late Sept.

 

Statistical peak for Hurricane season is Sept. 10th.

so your coming in late Sept. will find you on the back slide of this NOAA graphic...

Don't worry about hurricanes.

We get lots more exciting near-misses than we do actual hits

They're rarely life-threatening like the ones that roar across the Gulf of Mex.

and then slam into LA, TX and other Gulf states.

 

Our hurricanes are tame and well-behaved by comparison. ;)

 

We 'get them ready' as Trop. Storms or Cat. 1's

and then pass them on to others, downwind! :D

i'm here visiting longer term than short but have not been here in august although i hear more rain. but it's raining now on and off. sometimes, it's just showers and sometimes it heavy heavy rain and you get only a few seconds to get out of the rain or get your umbrella out. i hear from long term residents that the weather is similar but humidity with rain makes it different. sept very very rainy i hear. so from my experience, to make your stay as comfortable as possible, being prepared for the weather seems to be the best:

 

2 musts:

 

- carry an umbrella - i always carry a very small portable umbrella that i can whip out. look up in the sky and it's clear. then in 30 minutes, it's dark and starts to rain.

 

- dress appropriately - i have capris (female) and lots of tshirts and now, i just tend to wear tanks/sleeveless & shorts (mostly linen). and oh, sandals! wearing the right clothing makes a HUGE difference in comfort
