Mobile (Cell) phone in US

I bought an American SIM card for my mobile (cell) phone - the number is a different format to my UK one so I hope it's ok!

The new number is 716-704-xxxx

Please can someone tell me if that looks the right format for a US cellphone number?

I also need to know how to call the phone from the US (so we can meet up with our US friends) and also from the UK (so my son can call me). Do I need to add any 0s when I call other US numbers? I assume I need to add +44 when calling the UK but does my son need to add 001 when he calls me?

thanks for any help...

Please can someone tell me if that looks the right format for a US cellphone number? Yes, this format is correct for US phone lines, both land lines and cell phones.

If the number you are calling to meet up with your US friends also begins with '716', then all you need to do is dial the last 7 digits (will not need to include the '716'). If they have any other 3-digits, you will put a '1' in front, and then dial the complete 10-digit number (i.e. 1-512-428-XXXX).

To call the UK, yes, you will need to add the +44 before the number you wish to call. Your son will need to add 001 and then your 10-digit number to call you (001-716-704-XXXX).

thanks for any help...

Good luck, and enjoy your time in the States!

thanks for the reply - very grateful.

This is our 21st trip to the US but the 1st time I've bought a SIM card. Up til now I've used my uk mobile but costs are just getting ridiculous so hopefully this will help.

North American numbers are 10 digits so that is correct

If you have unlimited calling just dial the phone number for your friends

If calling outside of the USA then you need the Country code otherwise just dial the 10 digit number

enjoy

the phone number is split into the area code (716) and the phone number (704xxxx). Depending on where you are, for local calls you will likely have to dial either the last 7 or all 10 digits for a local phone call, or

add a 1 at the beginning (1-aaa-ddd-dddd) to dial a long distance call within the +1 (USA and CANADA) country code.

To Call Europe, dial 011-44- and then your UK phone number (dropping the leading 0 of the STD code)
