So what is your least favorite ship?

OK, so enough with the gushy "I love _____ (fill in the name of your favorite NCL ship here)", which ship is your least favorite? We all love NCL, or we wouldn't be posting here.

With two new ships being built, is there one (or more) which you feel should be retired? Only chime in if you have actually been on the ship you are recommending for retirement.

I only dislike the ships that leave port without me on them! :D In all honesty, I think each ship has its own charm and personality. Therefore, I like to keep trying different ships in the fleet. I believe there is no such thing as "Bad" cruise ship!

Sorry, no need to get snippy about it. I was just wondering if you reviewed your cruise.

I have had so many shots taken at me today that I thought you were just joining the "fun".

I don't usually write reviews.

Sorry if I was snippy. ;)

Of the four NCL ships we've been on, we like the Dawn the least. Mainly because of the long cafeteria-style food line and the absence of the Great Outdoors Café. They put in the T-Rex kiddie pool instead, albeit one deck below.

@jmcdon7230 -

No, I have not written a review, either. :) Nobody would be interested, because we do not do the usual things one is supposed to do on a cruise. No show, no casino, no bars, no fun at the pool, no sail-away, no hairy legs contest, no premium dining, etc. We just mushroom on our aft balcony and enjoy the ocean.

My least favorite is the Dawn, based on the lack of designated non-smoking areas on deck, and the non-enforcement of even a minimal dress code in restaurants, as observed on my cruise in November 2009.

There is nothing wrong with the ship per se. It's the POLICIES (or lack thereof) that are the problem.

Well sorry I like them all, I recommend none of them for retirement....they are all charming in their own way, perhaps the Spirit has the most charm of all.

I loved the Epic and would sail her again in a heartbeat....perhaps if I ever had the chance to sail some of the smaller ships I would have put them on the chopping block...I'm wondering how I will like the Sun after the Epic experience...oh well sorry I couldn;t answer the question....

My least favorite ship is the Epic and they are obviously not going to retire her soon.

Just curious not trying to be snippy... But how can u dislike a ship that you have never sailed on? only a ship tour one day in port? Ive only had about 11 days on cruise ships so u should know more than me seing that you have sailed almost a years worth of days.. But One would think you would at least sail on the ship 1st..

I believe the answer you are looking for is wisdom and experience. With that many sea days under his belt, he doesn't need a 7 day cruise to prove to him what he already knows.

I completely agree with you. Each ship seems to have their own special flare and I plan on trying each one of them out. :D To me, when you are on vacation, no matter which ship, it has to be good.

Goodness, I think my least favorite was the Spirit even though we cruised her twice. LOL That says something!

I've only read people praising the Spirit. We will be on her in another 3 months. What made you not like her?

I thought I read that the Spirit is the oldest and is 12 years old. Am I wrong?

I have only been on 3 NCL ships so far, the Pearl, Sky and Gem. If I had to pick one of those, it would be the Gem. Although it is the sister ship of the Pearl, there was just something I didn't like about it. I can't put my finger on it but there it is. We loved the Pearl and the Sky is old but fun. The Gem left a little to be desired for some reason. Again, not really sure why. HOWEVER, we had a great cruise on the Gem so go figure. :)

Exactly how I felt about the Gem. I think it was a management issue - crew just wasn't very happy, happy.

You are correct. Spirit was launched in Sept of '98. Well actually it was the SuperStar Leo at the time and became the Spirit with NCL in 2004.

I sailed on the QE2 when it was 35 years old so the Spirit is still a youngster in my view. ;)

Well I haven’t sailed on the Epic, or had as many cruises as PE, or even had a one day ship tour. And at this point and time I have no interest in the Epic for a good number of reasons. You don’t have to necessarily sail something to know what your tastes are.

There is nothing snippy about your question. My reasoning is quite simple. The epic has too many passengers and does not feel like a ship to me. The "promenade" is almost completely closed in with life boats. Standing in the main "lobby' feels like an amazing Vegas hotel. I relly don't get off on floating water parks either. I have the same exact feeling about the new Behemouths of the Sea brought out by Royal Caribbean. I truly wish my budget could afford me the opportunity to sail some of the smaller more intimate ships line Seabourn.

I can compare and contrast this by telling you that my favorite ship in the NCL fleet is the Sun.
