How Many Nights Would You Eat in the Steakhouse on a 7 Night Cruise?

Recommended Posts

The only reason why I can't believe that people eat in the steakhouse more than once in a seven-day period is because of the richness of the food -- then again, maybe you have better LDL levels than I do. ;)

I would venture a guess that the FIRST time we ate in the steakhouse (then: "Supper Club") was the ONLY time we ate just about everything they brought us. We were VERY uncomfortable for hours later. Probably the mindset that we needed to eat everything they brought us was at play!

Since then (easily 30+ times) we have either not eaten all of each course or, more typically, not ordered all courses. On this recent Valor sailing we never ate dessert. We intended to a couple of nights, but never had the room left to enjoy it. The servers usually catch on after the first couple of nights - though prior to that they seem concerned that we did not enjoy something if we didn't eat it all!

For me personally, one night in the Steakhouse is perfect. It's a treat for us & a night we look forward to every cruise, so I would hate spoil that by going numerous times on one sailing. The menu, food, service & atmosphere is fantastic & very enjoyable.

Just back from my 2nd SPLENDOR cruise and I would have to ditto everything. The food, wine and service was absolutely Splendorific ! ! Enjoyed it very much. My first time in all my Carnival cruise that I dined there and it was beyond my highest expectations. Make sure you don't miss it. :)

On our 8 day Freedom cruise in December we will be eating at the steakhouse twice and doing the Chef's Table. Reasoning: We are eating in the steakhouse night 1 (start things off right) and on night 6 (our 25th anniversary!). We were told that the Chef's Table is typically day 3 or 4 so it shouldn't conflict.

It's vacation, I don't mind the extra expense. :)

We are booked on the Spirit for the June 28th Alaskan cruise. We're celebrating our 25th anniversary and had considered the steakhouse but decided against it because of the additional cost. We love the food in the MDR and just didn't see the point in paying extra even though the reviews we've read about the steakhouse are overwhelmingly positive. However two recent events changed our minds. First, we booked Early Saver and since booking the price has dropped and we've applied for and received $240.00 in on board credit. Our excursions are already booked and paid for and we don't drink or spend a lot of time in the casino so that takes care of the cost issue. Second, we went out to dinner last weekend and endured a rude waitress and waited an hour for food that was mediocre at best. All for $47 bucks. That pretty much settled it for us. :D

DH and I have eaten at specialty restaurants at least 2X on DCL and RCI. We would have two dinners and a brunch. Once we tried a formal tea. That was ok. Brunch was amazing! So look into other options as well. DH and I are foodies so we find some of the mdr food unexceptional. JMO

It is so worth it, although the past year and half I have not been in a specialty restaurant on a carnival ship so I really cannot comment as to how the food is and I not the best to recommend it as I not know what they are like or the menu is like at this time. But RC and Princess EXCELLENT!! Now thats four star dining....I rate the MDR dinner fair to good...so I assume their specialty restaurants would be better....which leads me to be curious I will make a new post lol :)

None. with some amazing restaurant in NYC and my area I don't feel I need to spend extra on a ship. Its all about casual for me and don't feel the need for a steak thats a bit more tender or service a bit better.

We went to the Steakhouse on the Legend, one night, I don't think I could eat that much everyday! There were 4 of us, two people had the surf and turf and loved it, DH had the porterhouse and ate every bite:eek:, and I had the lobster. I should have remembered what my Dad told me years ago, when you go to a steakhouse go for the steak, because the lobster was rubbery, I didn't enjoy it. But everyone else enjoyed their dinner, so when we are on the Legend next year we will go again, I just won't make reservations months in advance. I will do it on the ship, because the steakhouse was more than half empty. We loved the food in the MDR, and I missed the Bitter and Blanc:( that night. I read this week that if you do make reservations for the first night, you get a free bottle of wine. We don't drink, so that's a waste for us. But might not be for someone else.:)

That did occur on the Dream (last year) and the Miracle in January - but not on the Valor. We thought about asking a couple of times afterward, but never remembered when we were in there.

We do it once every cruise; it’s a nice evening out. The Steaks in the MDR don’t even come close to the ones at the steakhouse… mmmmm. I recommend going on a day that you’re at sea, then you’re not rushed to get back to the ship or tired from running around port all day :). It’s well worth the $30 for a great steak. Going to a comparable steakhouse in Orlando we would spend at least twice that per person.

We're planning to eat at Harry's several times on Liberty in Dec. How many times could you eat there, without getting bored with the menu? This is our first Carnival cruise, so we don't have any experience eating there.

once or never. i always feel i'm missing something in the mdr.

now that it's merely a steakhouse, and no longer fine dining, there's no draw.

I can give you another reason. We don't like being constantly interrupted during a meal. We tried it once and didn't enjoy the experience at all. We didn't like how we were being bombarded by the waitress to see how we liked every bite. As far as the food, it wasn't any better than what the MDR had, only larger proportions. We aren't food junkies so the MDR suits us just fine.

lol. that reminds me of a comment i made to the old lady last cruise. i thought they were going to assist with chewing, they never left us alone!

but there was more help than patrons. i sometimes wonder if the entire tip is $30 just to pay all the people standing around, waiting.

My wife and I go to the steakhouse on the second formal night. Less people seem to dress up for the second formal night so that is one of the reasons we started going.

Less people seem to dress up for EVERY night!

On the last night there were two couples at one table. Both of the guys were wearing jeans (allowed), though had baseball caps on (w/shades on those) throughout the meal. It didn't impact our meal, but looked out of place.

Oh well!

DW and I agree 100%. Some people thrive on the attention to details, but not us. We'd rather eat a meal in peace so that we can enjoy it.

I've been told that it's done so that the chef can tell if you liked the meal or not. When I do a job, I don't expect a compliment on how I did. I do it to the best of my ability and don't worry about if I pleased someone or not. If I didn't, I'm sure I would hear about it.

Yep, none.

Not that the food there isn't good, it's just that I would rather have my multiple entreés at no additional charge.

Hey TEF - you don't drive a Range Rover do you? I saw one at Publix a couple weeks ago and the plate said TEF (and something else). I instantly thought of you.
