Bus to beaches Waikiki

Does anyone have experience in taking the bus from the dock area to swimming beaches - non hotel associated, for a day of surfing??

Thanks for your help.

The local Waikiki beach would not be for surfing as a rule.

When at the Aloha Tower pier looking at the park, walk Right, then straight about a short city block to the first bus stop. If you check the Ports of Call board for Hawaii, I am sure you will locate the bus number. Take it to the Hawaiian Hilton or further. Once you walk through the Hilton, there is a walkway along the beach. We walked all the way to the Royal Hawaian, had lunch at Duke's and rested on the sands near the Halekulani Hotel - Paradise.

Hotels do not own beach rights - it is open to the public.

As far as hotel or non-hotel affiliated beaches: All beaches in Hawaii are public. Period. The hotels and resorts are not required to allow non-guests to use the hotel facilities (pools, spa, etc. etc.) or umbrellas/lounges/cabanas on the beach, but they cannot prevent the general public from using the beach itself. Along Waikiki, pretty much all areas could be considered hotel-affiliated because most of the beach fronts the long line of hotels and resorts.

Also, we've seen quite a bit of surfing at Waikiki. It's out fairly far because the water is shallow and usually pretty calm quite a ways out along much of the beach. But we've seen plenty of surfing schools and novice surfers "out there." I don't really know how the surfing is for experienced surfers, but I'm sure there are members who could give you more information about that.

#19 or #20 bus will come near Aloha Tower and will say Waikiki. Catch the bus for Waikiki on the same side of the street as Aloha Tower and it will take you right to there. You have been given great advice to get off at HHV and then you can continue walking to wherever on the beach you wish to visit!

ENJOY!

There should be plenty of surfing spots all along Waikiki Beach depending on the time of year and the surf conditions on a particular day. You can take lessons, rent boards, etc.
