ozzy77 Posted July 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2011 So last year we went on the Majesty and I tried to buy the drink of the day which usually was anywhere between $8-$10 with a souvineer cup. Well last month me and my girlfriends went "out" for a bachelorette party...this has been the first time we have been out for YEARS and I was shocked when I went to one bar and got a martini and it was $10 with an automatic gratuity added! Then we went to another bar and I ordered an ameretto sour in this little tiny cheap plastic cup and my draw dropped:eek: when they said $9. I came home and told my husband and now we think the DOD is a heck of a steal :p
wingnutphl Posted July 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2011 I always ask for the drink of the day without the souvenir cup. But yes I agree. Some bar prices are ridiculously high!
tizbo1423 Posted July 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2011 I go out often and know how much drinks go for, so I was worried about what drinks would cost on the ship. But after seeing that most drinks are around $6-8, I'm relieved! $8 for a yummy tropical drink is way better than a $9 vodka/cranberry.

Barnaby100 Posted July 25, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2011 We stayed in a starwood hotel in Majorca last summer. It was 5 euro so about 7usd for a glass of coke. The glass was 250ml so two thirds of a can size.

temple1 Posted July 25, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Okay - I don't know if you are scaring me - or trying to keep me out of the bars when I go to Vegas in Feb just before our Navigator cruise. I live in a resort area so the price of drinks on the ship do not bother me. Now those Vegas prices......

Now those Vegas prices...... Depends on where you are. Typical prices in a casino bar are less than prices in the clubs. You can still get some fair prices in Vegas. Two dollar beers are not uncommon.

Two dollar beers are not uncommon. Even a $1 beer if you know where to go. $1 Michelob at Casino Royale. You can be a real George and tip them 100% :D $19 at Wynn? I guess it depends on which drink and where. Most "regular" specialty cocktails there seem to be $13-$15 in most bars. But I never go to any of the actual nightclubs there (XS, Tryst, Surrender, etc.) But really, anything at Wynn is pretty pricey. It's NOT the place to go for something cheap. Rare richstowe Posted July 25, 2011 #13 Share Posted July 25, 2011 RCI prices are high. Just because you can find as high or higher prices elsewhere doesn't mean it's not expensive. Remember drinks on board are made with duty free alcohol. If the prices are worth it to you, great but please don't try to convince me it's a good deal! Prior to boarding Mariner we were buying good bottles of wine for 4 Euro, less then $6. Now that's good value.

The best comparison for prices are full service upscale hotels. I'm not sure if you would call it duty free. In the US bars and restaurants pay the tax different on alcohol than individuals. Just because you can find as high or higher prices elsewhere doesn't mean it's not expensive.Remember drinks on board are made with duty free alcohol. A company cannot buy their alcohol duty free. They're going to be taxed one way or another. There is also a limit on how much an individual can buy duty free. That's some crazy logic there. :) http://www.dutyfree.com/What-Is-Duty-Free/Laws.aspx

lonig Posted July 25, 2011 #19 Share Posted July 25, 2011 On our last cruise we became familiar with a cocktail waitress and we got the special of the day but if you give them back your glass for a refill they charge you less and you get the special size so works out great!! Typical martini prices are $10-$12 dollars. At a restaurant I went to last weekend (Hot Tin Roof), the martini prices were $16. Even draft beers are going for $7 or $8 dollars in some places.
crisndeefromde Posted July 25, 2011 #22 Share Posted July 25, 2011 I don't sit at bars in vegas. My butt is planted at a penny slot machine. I drink pina coladas at certain venues and wine at others as i dont care for their pina colada mix. tip is my cost. starts at a buck and goes up the better the service. depending on where my dh is playing i may sit in the same place for several hours and over the years i do have my favorite servers. the better the tip the better the drink and the service. drinks on the ship are far cheaper than any club in vegas and even dining out at restaurants i do not get drinks out there. too too expensive compared to just sitting at a machine and putting in a few dollars. I am just chilling when playing anyway and very good people watching too. can't wait till saturday to get there out of this humidity

Go to any bar at a casino. There will be a poker machine or a roulette machine right at the bar. Put a $20 in it. Bartender comes over, you order a drink, and it is free. At this point, you have not taken any spins on the machine. Get your drink, hit the cash out button on the machine, and you will get a ticket that you can go cash in for the $20. jlrn366419 Posted July 25, 2011 #24 Share Posted July 25, 2011 Generally speaking, I think the drinks on board are better tasting and have more alcohol than drinks in resort towns/big cities in the U.S. too.

Have been hitting the casino bars in Vegas for quite a few years and have not had this happen. Drinks ordered at the bar are paid for even when playing poker. Can you let me know where this happens? Thanks.
