Anchorage to Seward Train Trip Seating Question

Recommended Posts

I've read on this forum about the different seating on the train from Anchorage to Seward. Anyone know what cars (saw something about Dome cars ) you are assigned if you book this thru Regent as we did? Paid about $179.00 per person. Our cruise date is August 10th, 2011.

Thanks for any and all info.

We did the Alaska cruise in 2009 and took the train from Anchorage to Seward. It was actually one of the highlights of our vacation and glad we decided to take the train as opposed to the bus alternative. The entire train was chartered by Regent and yes, it is one of the domed trains. Regent checks you in on the train and serves the champagne that is normally served as they welcome you on to the ship. The scenery is breathtaking!

We did this this June. We assembled in the lobby of our hotel with color designation. We were called to buses to take us to the train station. The train station was at the airport. As we got off the bus we went inside and there was where we were assigned our cars and seats on the train. The seats were facing table seats with 4 people to a table. We were the second couple assigned to the table, so we were going backward (not good for a person prone to seasickness). But it was a great ride. Each cabin had an attendant who explained items of interest along the way, took drink and sandwich orders (not part of all inclusive). The scenery was great, but the train is not what I would call domed. The windows were huge, but the cars did have a ceiling. Check in was set up in an adjoining car and we were called to go up and we got checked in. It was a great trip.
