dv71617 Posted August 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2011 We're planning our first trip to Europe (eastern med) and wonder what is the best time to get there. We're looking at late august or early september. Is it a good choice ? We liked hot temperature, good for beach tour and also for sigthseeing. Any other suggestions/time of the year ? We've gone swimming in Sorrento, Italy in early to mid-September and it was lovely! Airfares are generally lower, as well, and there aren't as many tourists as in August. For many Europeans, August is their vacation month so we try to avoid it like the plague.
wantocruisemore Posted August 5, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2011 If you like it hot you could try early June. It would be warmer than in May but still not as crowded as late June, July or August. But the airfare getting there, and likely the cruise, will be a little cheaper in May or Sept. and it would still be warm enough to swim.
Bobal Posted August 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2011 Early September is a great time for the East Med. The weather is still very warm but the crowds have gone. Second week in September would be a great time weather-wise and also when the prices really start to come down. The sea has warmed up nicely over the summer too, so it's much nicer in the sea than in May or June :)
eh2zed Posted August 5, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2011 Very hot and humid and busy in August. September still hot but much less busy. www.weatherbase.com

sail7seas Posted August 5, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2011 Mid-September is usually ideal. We often visited Europe during that time span and had fabulous weather for touring etc
